ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad's Church, Pattingham
        with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

In this week’s ChadNet:

We are returning to something closer to normal.
It is up to each individual to decide whether or not they should wear a face covering in church.
The church doors will remain closed during services to help to keep the church warm.
In the pews by the wall of the South Aisle we will continue to ask that social distancing be maintained so that those who wish to maintain social distancing can do so.
Do not attend church if you have any covid symptoms or are meant to be isolating.

“For God’s sake this man cannot remain in power”

The quote of the week for sure. It struck a chord with me and I am sure with many people around the world. We have been watching a bitter, cruel, completely unjustified war for five weeks now and the perpetrator of it deserves all the opprobrium that comes his way.

The President did not say he would try to remove Putin but the implication of his words makes it clear he thought the Russian people should. He later described Putin’s behaviour as outrageous and it is hard to disagree with that!

What do we think of that as Christians? Is it a justifiable attitude for us to take?

Well the old, rather hackneyed, adage always is , What would Jesus do?

What did He do?

He was never afraid to confront evil directly when He met it. The money changers in the Temple certainly felt His anger very forcibly. We know the Christian faith is based on love and understanding for all, but that should not preclude us from being clear about things which are patently wrong.

One of the many sad things about this war is the clear support given to it and its leader by the Russian Orthodox Church.

The suffering being felt by the innocent people of Ukraine is one of the saddest and most obviously wicked things that I have seen in my lifetime.

There does appear to be a glimpse of hope in the last few days of meaningful negotiations towards peace but, even if it comes soon that will not undo the damage caused and the heartbreak produced by the war thus far.

We as a Church fellowship continue to pray each evening for peace and reconciliation, while contributing financially to the relief efforts taking place. This is what we can do and although it might seem limited in its scope it is nonetheless worthwhile. We believe God does hear and answer prayer. Recognising of course it is in His way and in His time.

As we approach the end of Lent and the story of Good Friday we see the ultimate conflict between good and evil enacted on the cross. It seems like a defeat for good until Easter morning changes everything. Let us keep believing that in this current dreadful situation there will be a victory for what is right and just and evil will not triumph.

Ukraine

We are all aware of the current situation in Ukraine. It may seem that there is little or anything that we in Pattingham and Patshull can do but we can pray and those of us who are able can give either money or items which are needed. These can either support the aid efforts in Ukraine or support those refugees who have left Ukraine, particularly those who have come to this country. Donations to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal will be matched pound-for-pound by the UK Government up to £20 million. To donate or find out more go to https://www.dec.org.uk/ .

Prayers for Peace

We are saying Prayers for Peace in church every evening (except Sundays) at 6 pm. This normally lasts about 15 minutes. We have a rota so that there are one or two people present to lead the prayers although anyone else who wishes to come and join them is welcome to do so and can also say a prayer if they wish. Those who are not able to come to church may wish to pause and say a prayer of their own at that time.

If you can offer to join the rota – or even just do one or two evenings – please contact Mary Hayward ().
