ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad's Church, Pattingham
        with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

In this week’s ChadNet:

We are returning to something closer to normal.
It is up to each individual to decide whether or not they should wear a face covering in church.
The church doors will remain closed during services to help to keep the church warm.
In the pews by the wall of the South Aisle we will continue to ask that social distancing be maintained so that those who wish to maintain social distancing can do so.
Do not attend church if you have any covid symptoms or are meant to be isolating.

View from the Pews

He is risen!

“There is a Redeemer….”

“Thank you, Oh my Father, For giving us Your Son, And leaving Your spirit , ‘Til, Your work on earth is done”. (Melody Green 1977)

By the time you are reading this, Good Friday, the day we commemorate the death of Jesus on the cross, will have passed, and we will all be busy preparing for Easter Day! Whilst it is wonderful to look forward to Easter Day, it is also very important to take a few minutes to think and pray about Good Friday. The Bible tells us very clearly that Christ died for us – for all of us. We remember His sacrifice and the promise of forgiveness for our sins and for everlasting life with our Father in Heaven.  We remember the night before He died, at the Last Supper with his disciples, and the message He gave, that the bread represents Christ’s body and the wine His blood. He asked us to  ‘do this in remembrance of me’ and that is exactly what we are doing in our Holy Communion service. This is why we take ‘bread’ and ‘wine’ at Communion and remember Christ died for us all.

But, we must also remember what comes next….. we have been left His spirit and we must continue to do His work. This is the really difficult part, firstly, because we make excuses to ourselves – that we are all very busy doing our own work. Perhaps now is the time to set aside some time for God – it could be just a couple of minutes each day to pray and once a week to join us in worship together at one of our services. There are 10,080 minutes in a week, can you ‘give’ 80 or more minutes a week for God?

A second reason doing God’s work can be difficult, is because sometimes it is hard to work out exactly what God is asking us to do. There are so many conflicting demands on our time and on our resources. We struggle, as you do with these questions, and no, we do not have ‘the answers’, but what we can share is we do pray for God to help us follow the path we have to take. The power of prayer is great and we are asked to pray with patience and with complete trust in God.

Terry Waite was a Special Envoy for the Archbishop of Canterbury who was taken hostage whilst trying to negotiate the release of other hostages in Beirut in January 1987. He was held for 1,763 days and finally freed on 18th November 1991. He was in solitary confinement and had no books, no pen, no paper. After his release he was interviewed many times and one of the things he said was:
“At the end of the day, love and compassion will win.”

Here are his words of prayer:

“O Lord God, when grief comes upon us, grant us your comfort,
When loneliness overwhelms us, grant us your presence.
When the day is dark, grant us your light.”
Terry Waite

Have a joyous Easter
“I know that my Redeemer liveth!”

The Universal Prayer for Peace

Loving God,
Lead us from death to life,
From falsehood to truth.
Lead us from despair to hope,
From fear to trust.
Lead us from hate to love,
From war to peace.
Let peace fill our heart, our world, our universe.
Amen
