Re-introduction of the Common Cup
Following guidance from the Church of England, it was agreed at the PCC meeting on 7th June to reintroduce the Common Cup as part of Holy Communion from the altar rail from Wednesday 8th June. This change has already been carried out in most churches in our deanery. For those who would prefer to do so it will be possible to receive bread only but intinction (dipping the bread in the wine) will no longer be possible. Alternatively, a blessing at the altar rail can be given for individuals who choose not to receive.
View from the Pews
I have lived in the village all my life, and like my brother Tom, I also worked at The Pigot before going to uni to study a BSc in Physiotherapy.
I was Baptised in St.Chad’s and was confirmed when I was 11 years old. I have fond memories of being part of our church Youth Group, meeting the group with Barbara Tritton (who leads and co-ordinates our group) at her house, (obviously pre-Covid!), having a drink and a load of biscuits – oh yeah and doing the planning for our Youth services! Barbara was always so patient and encouraging; we always arrived with no clue what to do and then gradually, talking it through, we would all share ideas and it would start to come together! If you haven’t joined Youth Group – give it a try – and if you haven’t ever been asked to do a ‘Pause for Thought’ please see Barbara and volunteer – it’s great when different people get involved – just do it once – you will really enjoy being part of the service!
I have worked over the last 3 years as a student Physiotherapist on placements on wards with Covid patients, in Paediatrics, Neurology, Outpatients and Community and have met many people who are really unwell and in pain. This makes me really appreciate my health and energy. I play rugby for the university and for a local team, so along with uni work am kept fairly busy. One of the things I have learned being away from home is that you have to get involved, to get to know a community and fully enjoy everything it has to offer. It’s the same with our church – the more involved you get the more people you meet, the more you appreciate the experiences you can share.
If you see me or my brother, please don’t hesitate to say hello to either of us – and thanks for putting up with us for so long Barbara!
John Steel

Introduction of Home Communion at St. Chad’s
Following discussion at the PCC and with the agreement of the Rural Dean we are now able to provide a service of Holy Communion to members of St. Chad’s Church who are housebound, for whatever reason. A small team of volunteers is now approved to take consecrated bread and wine to those who feel unable to get to church.
This administration will usually be available on Sunday mornings after the 10.00am service is finished, but will also be available at other times as requested. Two members of the team will visit and the short service will usually last about 20 minutes to half an hour.
The only thing needed from the recipient is a small jug of water, everything else will be provided.
If you would like to make use of this facility, or you know someone else who might benefit from it, please get in touch with the Wardens or Ken Scott so that suitable arrangements can be made.
Participating in communion in this way enables those who take part to feel part of the worshipping church community in a very real way.
