ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad's Church, Pattingham
        with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

In this week’s ChadNet:

View from the Pews

The beautiful weather we are having as I write this reminds me of the glorious summer of 1976 but how different things are now for children.

That summer we played outside all day, rarely coming in except to ask for money when we heard the ice cream van. We didn’t use sun tan lotion, certainly didn’t let our parents know where we were and just hung out with friends. We went to Jersey for a holiday that year and stayed on a farm, loving seeing the animals every morning.

These days we know so much more about the dangers of the sun so kids are always covered in sun tan lotion, constantly in touch with friends and family through their mobile phones or, we’re led to believe, often alone in their rooms playing on electronic devices.

I think there should be a happy medium between the two. Now we know the danger of too much sun it’s good to take precautions. But there also needs to be a place for children to just play and use their imagination. There are certainly different challenges these days for both parents and children but I’m sure we all hope a happy path can be found.

Debbie Francis

Fete

The Church Fete which was held last week was a great success. It has raised about £3,600 for church funds – the final amount is still to be determined.

We thank Anna for again taking on the task of organising the event. After a two year break there was some nervousness as to its popularity but, after a slow start, the community rallied round and supported the event.

Thanks must also go to all those people who baked cakes, donated bottles and tombola prizes, organised and ran stalls, organised publicity, to the Mercers for both opening the event and supporting with the sale of their pork roll, to those who exhibited their classic cars and so many others who supported in so many different ways to ensure the event was a great success.

Clive Pendrell and Dorothy Steel – Churchwardens
