View from the Pews
“To err is human, to forgive divine” (Alexander Pope 1711)
When I have a chat with God I often ask how many times do I disappoint you God? Unfortunately, I fear the truthful answer is quite frequently! Are we very different – or are we all travelling along this same path, trying to be mindful of God’s presence in our lives but often choosing to ‘go our own way’? Yet, God forgives, again and again God forgives; not only forgives but shows love, care and comfort to us all. God embraces us throughout our lives – we only have to open our hearts and minds to recognise, accept with thanks and return this love.
I sometimes wonder what disappoints God the most? Clearly the big things like violence and aggression, harming others through greed and selfishness – but what about some of the smaller things? Not taking time to love and care for our neighbour? Carrying forward a grudge which prevents us from freely giving of ourselves? Showing little care or love for God’s wonderful creation – contributing to pollution, our misuse of precious water, leaving litter or graffiti to show where we have been?
We are all quite good at making mistakes, doing the wrong thing or ‘erring’. How do we find it in our hearts to follow the way of Christ and to forgive when others offend us? Ephesians tells us (4:31-32), “Get rid of all bitterness, passion and anger. No more shouting or insults, no more hateful feelings of any sort. Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ.”
As we continue to pray for all involved in wars and conflict around the world – and especially for Ukraine, we pray that all will find the path to forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Lord. Join us if you are able at our 15 minute ‘Prayers for Peace’; we believe in the power of prayer and that we each emerge a ‘better’ more fulfilled person by giving time for prayer.
If you would like to share a thought, a moment, a fragment of something from your life or from one of your ‘chat’s’ with God, send in a short ‘View from the Pews’ – we would love you to share it!

First Sunday Services
The informal services which we provide at St. Chad’s on the first Sunday of each month are very much appreciated by all those who attend. The PCC is very grateful to all those who give their time and energy to produce such vibrant Christian worship.
We intend to continue in the New Year with these services but could do with some new people volunteering to lead them. If you feel that you could not take a whole service but would be willing to contribute to one then that would also be very valuable. Help would be provided by those who have more experience of leading such worship. Remember these services are not just for children, they are for all the members of the congregation of all ages, so a variety of contributions is welcome.
If you think this is something you could contribute to the work and witness of the Church then please let the Wardens or Ken Scott know.
Experience Christmas
On the 5th and 6th of December the children of St. Chad’s School will be coming into Church, one class at a time, to take part in Experience Christmas. This involves having 6 stations around the Church each one dealing with a different aspect of the Christmas story.
These stations have to be manned by people who will explain to the children what each bit of the story is about. We have already recruited some volunteers but more would be good. This would mean not everyone would need to be at every session. The sessions will last an hour and a half and there will be one on the Monday morning and one in the afternoon, two on the Tuesday morning and one in the afternoon.
If you think this is something you could help with, and it is a very rewarding thing to do, please speak to Ken or Anne Scott.
Food Bank Donations for The Well
The box for donations for the Food Bank at The Well in Wolverhampton will continue to be at the back of the church. Details of the items wanted are on the table and can also be seen on the church website at <https://www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/harvest-2022/>.
Thank you.
