ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad's Church, Pattingham
        with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

In this week’s ChadNet:

View from the Pews

Adam and Eve window

We had been looking for some time before we found just the house which suited our family in Pattingham. We can see the church spire through the trees from our upstairs windows and hear the bells ringing on Sundays.

Good Friday 28th March 1975 – On a chilly morning we left our home in Derbyshire to begin a new stage of our lives in Pattingham. All our belongings were loaded onto the removal van (including the boys’ outdoor shoes) and they set off for Pattingham. Our 2 boys and the budgie were loaded into our car and we then set off. As we travelled south the weather changed and it began to snow – fortunately we reached Pattingham before the weather set in – only to find that the removal van had not yet arrived.

We eventually got a message that they had broken down, but a relief van would bring some of the basics so that we at least had beds etc. to sleep on that night.

James went round to the shops and Mr & Mrs Jophe at the delicatessen (now the Co-op) generously put together a basket of essentials to tide us over for the Easter weekend, the lady and her daughter who ran the hardware shop kindly lent us china, cutlery, a kettle and teapot etc. so we could have hot drinks etc until the rest of our belongings arrived. The boys thought this was great – having a picnic – in an empty house!

Easter Saturday 29th March 1975 – The very first visitor to knock on our door was Reverend Christopher Walters, who welcomed us to the village, and so began a long, continuous and very happy association with St. Chad’s church. Both our boys sang in the choir and the organist, John Hayward, taught them the piano for a while. Both our granddaughters were christened here by Reverend Maureen Hobbs.

Easter Sunday 30th March 1975 to Easter Sunday 9th April 2023 – We planned to go to church on our first Easter Sunday in Pattingham – and we were able to do so. As we will be attending church on Easter Day, 9 April 2023, we thank God for our good fortune to be living in a lovely part of the country, in a village where folks are friendly, smile as they pass or stop for a chat. Most important of all, the church is in the centre of our village.

Happy Easter from the Gosling Family

James and Elizabeth Gosling

Colouring competition to support Ukraine – results

There were 144 entries to the competition. The 12 winning entries (1st, 2nd and 3rd in each age category) will be on display in the church. The names of the winners will be on the Prayers for Peace notice board on Sunday morning and winners will be contacted to be given their prize.

A big thank you to everyone for entering. Judging was extremely difficult. They were judged independently by a retired art teacher who lives outside the parish.
