ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

In this week’s ChadNet:

View from the Pews

Vicar of Dibley

I’ve recently watched old episodes of The Vicar Of Dibley, and it made me think of how our sense of humour has changed over time. No one today would find a Court Jester very funny, and I couldn’t stand the slapstick comedy  which made my parents laugh.

Now, I suppose what makes me laugh would be considered not PC, though no offence was ever intended.

I wonder if God has a sense of humour? I think he must have. We aren’t told if Jesus joked with his friends, but I feel sure he did. I think humour is a gift given to us and that we should use it often and share it with others. So,though there is much strife in  our world, we mustn’t be sad all the while.

So, here’s a little gem from the Rev. Geraldine Granger, vicar of Dibley:
Q. What do you call a budgie that’s been run over by a lawnmower?
A. Shredded Tweet.
(Apologies to budgie owners!)

Our organist – a message from the Churchwardens

Our Organist Greg Lewin plans to retire to Wales and we thank him for all he has done for us and wish him well in his retirement.

Greg, (together with the Choir) has been with us throughout the challenges of ‘Covid’, supported our Sunday services and made our worship more meaningful throughout the year. He has led us in carols at Christmas, in our celebrations on Easter Day, at our All Souls’ and Remembrance services and at many weddings, baptisms and funerals and numerous other events.

It is sad to say ‘goodbye’ to such a valued member of our church family, we will miss him so much, but we wish him and his wife a peaceful and fulfilling move to Wales.

Greg’s last service with us will be 27th August and we will mark the occasion after both
services.

God Bless

Weekly Prayer

Becoming Dementia Friendly Church 2023-24

Hear our cry, O God
listen to our prayers for those living with
Dementia.
May they always remember your love for
them,
may they always remember that
though memories may fade like water
you are a rock that stays strong and true forever.
AMEN

The wishing well is also at the back of the church if you have any spare loose change. Donations, however small, go towards running costs. Don’t be shy, every little helps!
