View from the Pews
So a year has passed since my first “Safeguarding Sunday” View from the Pews.
Firstly, just a little update as to where we are as a PCC. All members and volunteers that are required to have completed all necessary training modules relevant to their role. Dorothy and I have also completed the Safer Recruitment training. We now have a prominent notice board, together with posters throughout the church and literature at the rear of the church. There are also full details on our website and this is all with regard to the Church of England Guidelines. The safeguarding policy (at the rear of the church) was updated in January 2023. Risk assessments for various activities have also been completed or ongoing. Any member is encouraged to partake of the Basic Training for their own information and enable more awareness. The link is <http://safeguardingtraining.cofeportal.org>. Please let me know if you do so I can update the database.
I would very much like to know if this has made a difference to your awareness to this important subject.
So this Sunday is “Safeguarding Sunday” Yes it is an emotive subject and just bringing this up can be triggering and distressing for many people. However, our beautiful church is an integral part of our community where anyone can come and feel welcomed. It is important that everyone in church is aware of the part they can play with regard to safeguarding within it. As a PCC we are committed to protecting vulnerable people and promoting safer cultures for all.
A Prayer for Safeguarding Sunday
Dear God,
Help us to be a church that:
Loves, welcomes, protects.
Listens, learns, serves.
Repents, restores, transforms.
Values, cares, believes.
God of Justice and compassion, hear our prayer.
Help us, heal us, guide us, we pray.
In Jesus name.
AMEN
“Safeguarding must never become synonymous with an obligatory bureaucratic tick box exercise. Theology must never be perceived as a dusty irrelevant pastime. If these unhelpful stereotypes are accepted, then a theology of safeguarding risks become detached from reality and irrelevant to our day-to-day lives. Theology is as vital to the church as a compass is to sailors in a storm. Safeguarding is the true north of all the helpful service the church has to offer” (Thirtyoneeight On behalf of the voiceless, A theology of Safeguarding. Dr Krish Kandiah with Justin Humphreys)
The Church of England acknowledges the historical issues and has often failed. However, we at St Chad`s are focused on all the things we have in place to ensure it is a safe place for all. We recognise it is integral to our faith and we take care of everyone. Safeguarding is and remains everyone`s responsibility.
God Bless
Tracey Williams
St Chad`s Safeguarding Officer.

Dementia Friendly Church
Weekly Prayer
TO KNOW MYSELF AS GOD KNOWS ME
Oh God, I am losing myself to this disease. Slowly, but surely dementia eats away at me. Little by little it takes away what makes me who I am. But you merciful God, continue to know me fully. Dementia cannot change who I am in your eyes. To you I am the sum of all I have been and all I will be and so you celebrate all of me and all of my life. You wrap all of who I am in love, acceptance and forgiveness. So God, I ask you to help me step outside my moments of loss and help me know myself as you know me. Help me see nothing of me is lost to you. Help me celebrate with You. Help me embrace your gifts of love, acceptance and forgiveness.
You will always and forever know me fully and love me deeply. For this I give you thanks and praise, God of my life.
AMEN
