View from the Pews
It was nice to be asked to write a View from the Pews, or organ/piano stool in this case, as I enjoy reading ChadNet every week, and I was a subscriber way before Cath and I became regular members of the Church here in Pattingham.
I have to say that both Cath and I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the warm welcome we received and continue to receive since joining you all last Autumn. The encouragement we receive about our music is also very much appreciated – thank you all! Thanks also for the way in which you have welcomed and helped our son Dan when he has been able to get to Church – Dan also feels part of the Church community.
Our impressions so far – this is a friendly Church full of committed Christians who work hard to ensure that the Church continues to thrive despite the absence of a vicar. St Chad’s is a beautiful Church building in a lovely rural setting.
We feel that we have been led here both spiritually and musically. We had felt for some time that we needed to make some changes in our lives and St Chad’s definitely feels like our spiritual home these days. We still have fond memories of earlier times of course and the many people that guided us in the past and we try and keep in touch with them as much as possible. We continue to be grateful to them all.
My Church background was very traditional, mainly at St Peter’s Church in Wolverhampton City Centre, but when I met Cath and we had our own family we wanted to move to a more local Church and we found one with lots of young families. It also had more contemporary forms of worship and these grew in time from purely piano and other acoustic instruments to a full electric band with guitars and drums ….. and flute of course! I am equally at home with both forms of worship but it’s good to get back to more of the traditional side of things.
I said in the Annual Report that I see my role as maintaining the long-standing traditions of Church music at St Chad’s Church whilst exploring more contemporary forms of worship and Cath and I feel we have re-discovered some of the contemporary music which has taken on a new lease of life and seems more meaningful in this new setting. I am very much open to feedback and guidance though on how to take forward the music worship in the future. There are lots of things that can be done and we start to see the signs of this already.
The Choir have also been very kind to me as I introduce new music.
Cath and I look forward to what the future brings as we all worship God together.

Annual Meeting
The Annual Church Meeting was held last Sunday. All the reports which were presented can be found on the church website at <https://www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/information/pcc-news-and-reports/pcc-reports/>. If you haven’t yet read them please do so as they give a full picture of the various activities of the church and its people in the last year.
The membership of the PCC is unchanged as those who came to the end of their terms of office were all re-elected and no one else volunteered to join. There are four vacancies which are available to be filled. Please think about whether you would be able to support the work of the church by joining the PCC.
At the PCC meeting after the APCM Graham Tritton was appointed as Treasurer in place of Tony Ainsworth.
The draft minutes of the meeting are also on the church website. If you find an error in them please notify the secretary so that they can be corrected.
Bell Sunday service
The bellringers would like to express their thanks to all those involved in the Bell Sunday service last Sunday evening. It was good to be able to share our enthusiasm for bells with the wider congregation and we liked the surprise musical item with which the choir finished the service. A report about the service is on the bellringers website at <https://www.pattingham-ringers.org.uk/news-and-events/bell-sunday-2024/> including the words of the surprise musical item.

Village Fete – Saturday 6th July, midday onwards
As we hurtle headlong towards summer, the village fete will soon be upon us. Plans are coming together nicely and advertising and competition entry forms will be circulating from the beginning of May. Entry forms will be available from either Le Salon, the Co-Op, The Pigot or the back of the church. Competitions include best Victoria sponge, best fruit jam, best pickle/preserve, best dressed wheelbarrow and so much more! We also need volunteers to help out on the day – doesn’t have to be all day, just whatever you can do if you’d like to. Some stalls will need manning and set-up/clear-up help would be most appreciated.
If you’d like to be involved, please do email Alix Jones on or Keith Eden on
The Well – the Wolverhampton Food Bank
We have received a thank you letter from The Well for the latest donation of £150 which was sent to them from the cash donations put in the well at the back of church. Almost £600 has been raised in the 18 months since it was introduced as well as many donations of food and other supplies.
The box remains at the rear of the church for donations of food and toiletries and the wishing well for donations of cash. Foreign coins can be put into the wishing well (in a separate bag please) and they will also go to help the needy in Wolverhampton.
Thank you

Dear Friends
Re: Financial Donation
We are writing to acknowledge receipt of your generous gift of £160.
Between 2006-2023 we delivered food parcels direct to over 118,000 adults and children living in WV postcode areas (this includes repeat parcels). Additionally, we have supported many others indirectly through giving 10% of food & general financial donations to other similar projects across the city.
As this project has grown to respond to the ever increasing need, our operation costs have grown alongside it.
Your financial support enables us to continue responding to the many requests such as the one below to assist those struggling in this cost of living crisis:
‘Me & my daughter have not been well and are struggling this month due to the rise in gas and electric bills.’
This comment from a recipient to one of our delivery drivers shows the difference a food parcel can make:
“Thank you so much for this food. Maybe life is not so bad after all”
We are deeply grateful and thank God for your partnership in supporting our local community.

Dementia Friendly Church
Weekly Prayer
Dear Lord
Shine your ever guiding light on all those that need support caring for or living with the struggles of dementia.
Shine your ever guiding light and embrace them in their darkest days, give them hope and strength and courage.
Shine your ever guiding light to show them where there is support and allow them to live the best life they can.
Shine your ever guiding light to enable them to continue with their faith in all its glory, knowing that they are loved and cherished.
Shine your ever guiding light so that they know you are always by their side, walking with them along this strange and sometimes frustrating path.
Surround them with kindness and compassion, that the light will forever glow and bring comfort on their journey.
Amen
(Tracey Williams St Chad`s Church, Pattingham with Patshull)
This prayer Tracey submitted to this year’s Diocese “Share a Prayer” Project for Dementia Awareness Week.
