ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad's Church, Pattingham
        with Patshull

Welcome to the 29th edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

Annual church meeting

The annual church meeting will be held on Sunday 11th October at 11.15 am in church.

All members of the church community are welcome to attend. The papers and more information can be found on the PCC reports page of the church website.

Elections will be held for Churchwardens, Deanery Synod Representatives and PCC Members. Because a number of existing members will be standing down and not seeking re-election we do need others to come forward for some of those positions. Please consider whether you would be able to serve the church in one of those roles. Nomination forms can be found on the PCC membership page of the church website and are also available at the back of the church.

There is often a plethora of advice available from so called experts telling us what the essentials for happiness are. Invariably these include the desire for happy relationships, whether at home, at work or within our social and community interactions. The second is for interesting, challenging and fulfilling work into which we can be fully absorbed, even for the retired. The next is the desire for financial independence such that we can be free from money worries and have sufficient resources to support our preferred lifestyle. Lastly it is considered that good health is central to being happy.

I am sure we would all agree that, whilst all these are desirable, they certainly do not guarantee happiness principally because they ignore the need for spiritual contentment. This is the aspect which embraces our inner self, our attitudes, our views and outlook, our determination, our humour and our beliefs. These are the qualities which determine us as people and from which our personalities are derived. For the Christian there is an additional important element and that is maintaining a relationship with God.

Detail of creation of Adam by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel

Maintaining such a relationship with God is not only central to the life of any Christian, it is lived out in numerous different ways and brings a dimension to our life which is otherwise lacking. It brings a purpose, a depth and a sense of well being which is sometimes difficult to explain but is nonetheless very real. So real in fact that I would suggest it supercedes all other relatively transient reasons for happiness. I have, for example, met many people who neither enjoy challenging jobs or good health and yet they are very happy and contented with their lives. It is that spiritual dimension which sets them apart.

I think that this year’s Covid 19 restrictions have prompted many of us to question what is important in our lives. Perhaps it is the same for you as we explore its purpose, its meaning and its priorities. Is there a spiritual dimension to your life? For me, this is essential if I am to be truly fulfilled and happy and being part of St Chad’s, Pattingham helps me as I try to live out my Christian faith, sharing worship and experiences with other like-minded people. If you haven’t tried it, then I would certainly recommend it!

Greg Lewin – a man of many talents

The article by Greg which was in last week’s ChadNet is now on the church website at <https://www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/news-and-events/the-story-behind-the-organ-console-used-in-worship-on-the-web/>. If you didn’t read this last week it’s worth a look.

The service for each Sunday will be available from about 9 am and will continue to be available until it is replaced be the next week’s. Some of resiources which can be used at home are listed on the Resources Available Online and the Resources Available for Children, Young People and Families pages of the website.

ChadNet

This bulletin is sent to those who have requested it. We now have 83 subscribers but there may still  be some people who are not aware of it and would wish to receive it. If you know of anyone who might be interested please tell them about it and ask them to sign up using the form on the website (www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/information/chadnet/sign-up-to-chadnet/) or by email to

Giving to the church

In the current circumstances there will inevitably be a reduction in the money which the church receives. However we will need to continue to pay our bills and we would ask that those who can afford to do so should continue to give regularly. Details of the various ways in which you can give can be found on the Giving page of the website.

If you are paying by cheque please make the cheque payable to “Pattingham PCC” or “Pattingham Parochial Church Council“.

The weekly bulletin for each Sunday will normally be sent on the preceding Friday or Saturday. Additional bulletins may be sent if required. It is only being sent to those who have requested it. If you know of anyone who might be interested please tell them about it and ask them to sign up using the form on the website (www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/information/chadnet/sign-up-to-chadnet/) or by email to
