Face coverings must now be worn in church, except by those who are under 11 or exempt for medical or other reasons. This is as a result of the change in the rules announced by the government this week. They may be removed while singing.
The church doors will remain closed during services to help to keep the church warm. The PCC has considered the official guidance on the need for ventilation and is content that there is sufficient ventilation with the doors closed. It will, of course, continue to monitor the guidance.
So that those who wish to ensure that they can maintain social distance feel comfortable social distancing must be maintained in the pews by the wall in the South Aisle.
Do not attend church if you have any covid symptoms or are meant to be isolating.
View from the Pews

Every time I drive into Pattingham from whatever direction I wonder at the stunning scenery that surrounds this beautiful village – St Chad’s standing proud for all to see.
My family and I first had the pleasure of meeting you all back in 2015, when my son and daughter-in-law chose to have their wedding at this wonderful church in the August of 2016. You were all so warm and welcoming and I enjoyed my regular visits. I had been away from church for a while for lots of life reasons. The ambience you have here and the community you are made me rethink and reaffirm my faith. I welcomed the inner peace and calm I felt at the end of each service. If work had been especially trying it was very much “I really need church this week”. Our journey has continued with you all, with christening and confirmations which brings us to 2019 for Jayde and Kearon’s wedding, the last family get together prior to Covid arriving a few months later!
Everyone’s journey throughout this pandemic has been different and mine from a work perspective is well documented and continues in the background on a lesser scale thankfully today. I was on shift in the area of the unit that had the first case confirmed. It is a day I will never forget, staring out of the window to the rows of ambulances, tears rolling down my cheeks fearful of what was to come.
I am not going to dwell on that, I want to focus on every one of you. The support you gave, the online services were truly appreciated, the prayers for my sister Kirsty. I need you to know your support and kindness gave us such comfort and strength. St Chad’s and the whole congregation has become integral within our life and all of you we regard as dear friends. The community spirit here in Pattingham is inspiring and you should all be really proud of all you achieve here in this quintessential English village. I may not have the pleasure to reside here, but I will be forever grateful that our paths have crossed.
So, let’s look forward to our next family chapter with St Chad’s, Esme’s christening in the spring 2022! But firstly, to Christmas a special time of the year that will be be a vast improvement on the last!
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmastime. From our family to yours.
Tracey Williams
