As a consequence we have no alternative but to suspend our recruitment process.

This is most disappointing, particularly given how long we have been in interregnum. However, we would not wish to compromise on attracting the right candidate and therefore support the decision taken. The Diocese is looking again at the job description for the Environmental element of the role, following which we shall re-advertise. That should not take too long.

This news is a set back because a great deal of work has gone into preparing for a Familiarisation Day when the candidates were to be guided round the village, the church, the school, and the vicarage. A programme had been devised whereby they were to be given the opportunity to meet a number of regular church goers, as well as others from our community, and get a real flavour of life in our church and village. Let’s hope we can resurrect those plans soon.

That is the bad news but I also have some good news. Nay, I would say some very good news. Ken Scott, who was to retire as our Lay Reader has very generously agreed to renew his license for a further year, during which period we would hope to identify a new Incumbent. We all know that Ken is exceptionally talented and has been our spiritual rock during the interregnum. To have him continue in this role is a huge blessing and we are so grateful, particularly as we can also rely on Iain Coleman, our other relatively recently appointed but equally capable Lay Reader.

We are so fortunate in Pattingham to be able to enjoy the support, commitment and dedication of so many talented people in our Church. That is what has enabled us to thrive as a Church during the interregnum so far. I hope and pray that we can all continue to work together through this temporary setback, whilst I also appeal to everyone in our village to rally round and support the various activities planned for the Summer, so that our entire community can continue to thrive.

Philip Sims
PCC Chairman

Would you like to write a View from the Pews?

We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject.
