Most of the planning is over and the weekend will represent the culmination of the Parochial Church Council and the Parish Council working together, as it did last year for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Friday sees the King’s Feast, to be attended by 95 residents of the Village all coming together to celebrate this momentous event. Food, wine and celebration cake will be prepared and served by local volunteers, music will be provided by Little Miss Keys, Sophie Nicholls, and we are promised a visit by the BBC Midlands News team. This promises to be a fun event to be enjoyed by all.

I am sure we shall all be watching the Coronation ceremony on Saturday from Westminster Abbey and this is to be followed by another sold-out event in the evening with a Barn Dance in the Village Hall. These are always much fun and we will again be enjoying a Hog Roast so generously provided by the Mercer family from Patshull. We do so appreciate their on-going support of so much that goes on in our Village. If you are going to this event do not forget to bring your own drinks!

On Sunday we have our Thanksgiving Service for the Coronation of King Charles at 10am in our Church. This will be a very special Service led by our own Iain Coleman, with Audio/Visual presentations expertly prepared by Mike Coope. A celebration cake and Prosecco will also be served after the service. The Church will be decorated with stunning floral displays with a Coronation theme of red, white and blue. As ever, we are so grateful to the Ladies of the St. Chad’s Flower Guild for sharing their wonderful creative skills with us. Given the similar services which we had last year on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee and the funeral of our much loved Queen Elizabeth II, we are so looking forward to this service, particularly given the outstanding success and impact of those memorable services last year.

Later in the day, Pattingham Club is again putting on special entertainment in celebration of the Coronation with Live Music and a Barbecue in the Garden. On Monday from 10am everyone is invited to join in a massive litter pick as part of our King’s Big Help Out, starting at the Village Hall. Do please come along, picking equipment will be available and there are chocolate treats for the children.

You will doubtless have noticed the decorations in the centre of our Village and the huge amount of publicity devoted to ensuring that everyone is aware of what is planned. This has helped to bring the community alive and we do hope that everyone joins in to make this weekend a truly memorable celebration.

As ever, we are so grateful to those who devote so much time and skill to ensure that Pattingham is able to truly celebrate this notable event. It is no coincidence that, once again, our Church is at the centre of what goes on in our Village for we do believe that to be our responsibility. This will be particularly true of the Service on Sunday, when we welcome so many from our Village, when we have the opportunity to show off our Church as being the Spiritual Hub of our community, when we provide a warm welcome to everyone and illustrate the real relevance of modern Christianity at work in Pattingham.

Philip Sims
PCC Chairman

(This message was published on the church facebook page on Thursday and shared with other village facebook groups.)

Would you like to write a View from the Pews?

We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject.
