Some are a bit scary, some are very simple but effective, others rather complex, but just as colourful – it must take hours of planning and construction – thank you to all you scarecrow makers. It is super that so many visitors come along to appreciate and enjoy them – they hear about the Festival because of the wonderful publicity that our Mr Coope puts out, drip feeding the general public over several months – my face has been seen just everywhere recently, hasn’t it?

I know from chatting to Chrissie that Festival planning started back in February and builds up throughout the summer months – the Steering Committee are extremely grateful to the sponsorship offered and donations given in advance of the Festival so that known expenses are covered (just in case we have a bad weather event) – talking of the weather, weren’t we lucky last weekend? …. I was mighty glad the forecasters had it a little bit wrong and in the end we had some super sunshine to enjoy. On Saturday and Sunday there were over 500 cars parked each day on the Evans field – a huge thank you to them for this facility – they also provided the free straw stuffing up many a scarecrow!

Did you know that over 70 volunteers came forward to help with stewarding the car park and in the Church, with selling tickets, trail guides, badges a quizzes, and with serving refreshments – that is a huge number of you and without whom we just couldn’t perform – thank you all so much. Thanks are also due to the many folks who baked a cake (or in some cases several cakes) and made up the lunchtime baps – far too many names to mention – you kept our weekend visitors very well fed indeed.

Time for a drum roll……… I can now reveal that the proceeds of this great community event are in the region of £13,500 (subject to last minute expenses still to come in) …… raised by the village to be spent on village projects within the Church, School and Community. My Steering Committee of Philip, Mike, Iain, Rob, Alison, Rob & Claire, Keith & Alix, & Chrissie are extremely proud of this achievement, and thank all villagers for their support of this venture – so do I, and needless to say I hope to be back with you all again in September 2025.

Take care everyone!

CHARLIE

Would you like to write a View from the Pews?

We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject.
