This includes those working in the criminal justice system, and the many people who are involved in caring for those affected by crime on the inside and outside of our prisons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prison Week raises awareness and generates prayer. It motivates volunteers to step forward and give their time and gifts in prison and their own community. It provides an annual focus for Christians to work together to make a difference for people who are out of sight and often out of mind. Prison Sunday &#8211; the second Sunday in October &#8211; marks the start of a week of prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the prayer we are asked to offer:<br><em>Lord , you offer freedom to all people.<\/em><br><em>We pray for those in prison,<\/em><br><em>Break the bonds of fear and isolation that exist,<\/em><br><em>Support with your love prisoners, their children, families &amp; friends,<\/em><br><em>Heal those who have been wounded by their activities especially the victims of crime ,<\/em><br><em>Help us to forgive one another <\/em><br><em>To act justly, love mercy and walk humbly together with Christ in His strength and in His Spirit now and every day,<\/em><br><em>Amen.<\/em><br><br>Psalm 19 verse 1 &#8211; <em>The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are those times when we feel distant or doubt God&#8217;s presence in our lives even crying out in anger or sadness &#8220;where are you now?&#8221; But he has promised never to leave us and as we search for truth , love, purpose or forgiveness , there comes the response &#8220;look up child&#8221;.<br><br>After twenty years as a Magistrate and twelve as a Chaplaincy Volunteer at HMP Oakwood I feel very privileged to have&nbsp; experienced both sides of prison life but I have keys!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jill Parker, MBE, JP, MCSP<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"would-you-like-to-write-a-view-from-the-pews\">Would you like to write a View from the Pews?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject. Ask Anna Davies for details &#8211; 07968 891927.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At 6.30 pm <\/strong>there will be a <strong>S<\/strong><strong>ervice<\/strong><strong> of Evensong<\/strong>, led by Ken Scott, in church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is <strong>Prisons Sunday<\/strong>, the first day of Prisons Week, which raises awareness and generates prayer for those affected by prisons. Please do join us and if you would like more information or are willing to lead a session, please contact Mary Hayward (<a href=\"mailto:maryleah@hotmail.co.uk\">maryleah@hotmail.co.uk<\/a>)<em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Wednesday<\/strong> at <strong>10.00 am<\/strong> there will be a service of <strong>Holy Communion<\/strong> according to the Book of Common Prayer, led by Revd James Makepeace, in church which will be followed by tea, coffee and cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After the service<\/strong> the church will be open<strong> from 10.30 am<\/strong> until at least 11.00 am as a <strong>Place of Welcome<\/strong> when anyone who wants to will be welcome to share in the coffee, cake and chat, whether they have been to the service or not. Those attending will receive a warm welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>Wednesday<\/strong> at <strong>6 pm<\/strong> in church the <strong>Pattingham Shower Singers<\/strong> meet in church. All are welcome &#8211; just come and sing and have fun! Information, including a leaflet with prayers and readings from the Psalms for each day, can be found at &lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prisonsweek.org\/\">https:\/\/www.prisonsweek.org\/<\/a>&gt;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prisoners\u2019 Week began in England and Wales in 1975. The Prisoners\u2019 Week Committee, consisting of Prison Chaplains and other Christians involved in work with prisoners and their families, was formed to encourage prayer within churches and the wider Christian community for the needs of prisoners.<br><br>In 1993 Prisoners\u2019 Week became a registered charity and in 1995, seeking to focus attention not only on the needs of prisoners but on all those involved and affected by prison (including prisoners families, victims of crime, prison staff, those working in other parts of criminal justice and many volunteers) the week became known as Prisons Week, and the committee known as the Prisons Week Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"SA\"><a><\/a>Link to Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/link-to-hope-logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"203\" height=\"163\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/link-to-hope-logo.png\" alt=\"Link to Hope\" class=\"wp-image-6351\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s time to think about doing our shoeboxes now. This year the countries include Ukraine.&nbsp; I do hope that we can do something to help these people, for whom life really is a struggle, especially in these difficult times.<br><br>There are other options, including making a donation, but hopefully we can gather up lots of actual boxes this year.&nbsp; More details can be found on the Link to Hope website at &lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/linktohope.co.uk\/shoebox-appeal-2023\/\">https:\/\/linktohope.co.uk\/shoebox-appeal-2023\/<\/a>&gt; and on the church website at &lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/news-and-events\/shoe-box-appeal-2023\/\">https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/news-and-events\/shoe-box-appeal-2023\/<\/a>&gt;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will take the filled boxes to the local co-ordinator.<br><br>Why support the Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They ask people to fill a Shoebox for a family or an elderly couple \u2013 not just a child.&nbsp; Their list contains items for all family members and includes items such a shower gel\/shampoo, family games, stationery items, gift for mum and dad as well as sweets, soft toys, hats, scarves etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their annual Family Shoebox Appeal has been running since 1992 and has delivered smiles to thousands of people in Eastern Europe over the years.
