Before the advent of the American festival. this was a low-key  night (the lanterns were made out of swedes not huge pumpkins) after  which the candles were blown out to show that the saints of All Hallows&#8217;  Day were there to overcome evil so they shouldn&#8217;t be scared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In  previous ages, before the introduction of the Weekend, people took their  days off on their local saint&#8217;s day, for Pattingham, March 2nd. All  Saints&#8217; Day, gave a holiday to those whose church was not named after a  specific saint; and everybody else took the opportunity to join in. A  great day all round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All Souls&#8217; Day pays respect to all of us who  are not or have not been recognised as saints. This is surely a happy  day, a cause for rejoicing. When a loved one dies, of course we mourn  them; we also mourn our own changed life. All Souls&#8217; Day, however, is an  opportunity to remember those who have gone before, and give thanks for  our memories and the happy lives we have lived, So, come on,  Pattingham, be grateful on All Souls&#8217; Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gladys Jones <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"would-you-like-to-write-a-view-from-the-pews\">Would you like to write a View from the Pews?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject. All are welcome. During the service we will remember by name all those for whom funerals have been held in the last 2 years and those whose names have already been added to the list which was at the back of the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the <strong>last day<\/strong> for the <strong>Link to Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal<\/strong>. Please take filled boxes to Barbara Tritton or leave them at the back of church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <strong>Parish Prayer Diary<\/strong>&nbsp; we pray for: those who work in care homes or care for people in their own homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <strong>Trysull Deanery Prayer Diary<\/strong> we pray for: All Saints, Trysull.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"This_week\">This week<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The church will be open every day. <\/strong>Look out for the &#8220;church open&#8221; sign outside the porch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>Monday and Tuesday<\/strong> there will be a <strong>FREE NHS Health Check<\/strong> trailer outside the <strong>Village Hall<\/strong> from <strong>10am to 4pm<\/strong>. It is for those aged 40-74. To book your appointment call 0333 005 0095 or text HEART to 60777. Health checks are designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On Tuesday Prayers for Peace<\/strong> will be said in church at <strong>6 pm<\/strong>. Please do join us and if you would like more information or are willing to lead a session, please contact Mary Hayward (<a href=\"mailto:maryleah@hotmail.co.uk\">maryleah@hotmail.co.uk<\/a>)<em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Wednesday<\/strong> is <strong>All Saints&#8217; Day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On Wednesday<\/strong> at <strong>10.00 am<\/strong> there will be a service of <strong>Holy Communion<\/strong> according to the Book of Common Prayer, led by Revd James Makepeace, in church which will be followed by tea, coffee and cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>After the service<\/strong> the church will be open<strong> from 10.30 am<\/strong> until at least 11.00 am as a <strong>Place of Welcome<\/strong> when anyone who wants to will be welcome to share in the coffee, cake and chat, whether they have been to the service or not. Those attending will receive a warm welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pattingham Shower Singers<\/strong> is not taking place this week as it&#8217;s half term. It will resume next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <strong>7 pm<\/strong> on <strong>Wednesday Choir Practice<\/strong> takes place in church. Anyone interested in joining the choir should contact any member of the choir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thursday<\/strong> is <strong>All Souls&#8217; Day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Next_Sunday\">Sunday 5th November &#8211; All Saints&#8217; Sunday<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>At 10 am <\/strong>there will be a <strong>Family S<\/strong><strong>ervice<\/strong>, led by Tracey WIlliams and Dorothy Steel, in church. This is a Dementia Themed Service and there will be an opportunity to make a donation to the Alzheimer&#8217;s Society for those who wish.
