The origins of the day go back to the early Christian practices of praying for the dead. It wasn&#8217;t until the 11th Century, when St Odili played a pivotal role in standardising the date of 2nd November, that there became widespread acceptance of a specific date.<br><br>Here at St Chad&#8217;s we hold a special All Souls&#8217; Memorial service where there is the opportunity to remember loved ones by name at 6.30 pm on Sunday 27th October. Each week in ChadNet and during a service the names of those in our Memorial book are also remembered. There are forms at the back of church if you&#8217;d like someone to be named in the All Souls&#8217; Memorial service. <em>(Names need to be added before the list is removed on Thursday 24th October &#8211; Ed.)<\/em><br><br>We are all touched by the lives of those who are sadly no longer with us but live on in our hearts. Let&#8217;s not forget we each have the opportunity to be remembered by leaving our &#8216; footprints on the sands of time&#8217; Each one of us is unique and it&#8217;s no accident we are. Please do join us and if you would like more information or are willing to lead a session, please contact Mary Hayward (<a href=\"mailto:maryleah@hotmail.co.uk\">maryleah@hotmail.co.uk<\/a>)<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Wednesday<\/strong> at <strong>10.00 am<\/strong> there will be a service of <strong>Holy Communion<\/strong> by Extension, led by Iain Coleman, in church which will be followed by tea, coffee and cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After the service<\/strong> the church will be open<strong> from 10.30 am<\/strong> until at least 11.00 am as a <strong>Place of Welcome<\/strong> when anyone who wants to will be welcome to share in the coffee, cake and chat, whether they have been to the service or not. Those attending will receive a warm welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>Wednesday<\/strong> at <strong>12 noon Who&#8217;s for Lunch?<\/strong> is held in the <strong>Village Hall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At <strong>6 pm<\/strong> the <strong>Pattingham Shower Singers<\/strong> meet in church. All are welcome &#8211; just come and sing and have fun! Lin Vawer, in church.&nbsp;<strong>Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available after the service.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At <strong>6.30 pm<\/strong> the <strong>All Souls Memorial Service<\/strong>, led by Ken Scott, will be held in church. All are welcome. During the service we will remember by name all those for whom funerals have been held in the last 2 years and those whose names are in the Memorial Book who have died within the last 6 years. There is a list at the back of church to allow the addition of other names. The list will be removed on Thursday 24th October. If you know anyone who might be at risk of falling for it please let them know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"LTH\">Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/link-to-hope-logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"203\" height=\"163\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/link-to-hope-logo.png\" alt=\"Link to Hope\" class=\"wp-image-6351\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We are again taking part in the annual Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal which asks people to fill a shoebox for a family or an elderly couple. It&#8217;s a really simple idea, anyone can get involved. Just fill a shoebox with items for a family or an elderly couple \u2013 not just a child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appeal has been running since 1992 and over the years has delivered smiles to thousands of people in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. I do hope that we can do something to help these people, for whom life really is a struggle, especially in these difficult times. Last year we collected a record of 56 boxes.
