Ken Scott was licensed as a Reader in June 1980 by the Bishop of Lichfield, Kenneth Skelton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then he has served as a Reader in three parishes – first at St Jude’s, Wolverhampton – then at Christ Church, Tettenhall Wood and since 2009 at St Chad’s, Pattingham. He decided to “lay down his scarf” and retire as a Reader at the end of April 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His last service as a Reader was the evening service on Easter Day, 20th April. It was a Songs of Praise service and included some of his favourite hymns. It was attended by about 160 people, including members of Ken’s family and friends from his previous parishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the service Ken and Anne, his wife, were presented with a gift from the congregation as a thank you for their service to the church in many ways over the years and Anne was given a bouquet of flowers. Those present then partook of refreshments and conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We wish Ken and Anne all the best and know that they both remain a part of our congregation and will carry on supporting the church and others in various ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ken wrote an article in the November 2017 edition of the Parish News magazine about the work of a Reader. That can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ken was given a card from the school to mark his retirement from ministry. He says that he was very touched by it. It is such lovely thing with a finger print from every child in the school.<\/p>\n\n\n
