{"id":3403,"date":"2019-10-17T21:07:48","date_gmt":"2019-10-17T21:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=3403"},"modified":"2019-10-17T21:07:48","modified_gmt":"2019-10-17T21:07:48","slug":"sermon-13th-october-2019","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/information\/sermons\/sermon-13th-october-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon &#8211; 13th October 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/information\/sermons\/\">Sermons index<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity  \u2013 8 am service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 13th October 2019 <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Trininty 17 &#8211; Proper 23 \u2013 8 am service<br>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Jeremiah 29.1,4-7<br>\nLuke 17.11-19<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Revd Preb Maureen Hobbs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"180\" height=\"252\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MaureenHobbs-02.gif\" alt=\"Maureen Hoobs\" class=\"wp-image-791\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So how many of us have experience of doing something for someone, who then forgot to say thank you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How many of us have neglected to thank someone for something they\u2019ve done for us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s a more uncomfortable thought isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However well we have been brought up, it\u2019s almost certain that we\u2019ve taken someone for granted at some time in our life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The point of this story is that all ten of the lepers were cured\u2026 God does not discriminate between the grateful and the ungrateful, although I expect the others were grateful &#8211; it\u2019s just that they got caught up with the excitement of realising that they were better and that the priest could certify it, which meant they could be restored to their families and community. Only the Samaritan did not have the same need\u2026 he realises on the way that they have all been cured and turns back to praise God and then to say thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And he is the one that Jesus himself restores. He is the only one who is declared \u201cwell\u201d. Which is so much more than just being cured. To be well means full restoration. He is the one who interacts directly with God in the person of Jesus\u2026  he gets the ultimate prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So will we go away today resolved always to say thank you? Will we remember always to praise God First?
