{"id":4057,"date":"2020-03-31T12:51:27","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T12:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=4057"},"modified":"2020-03-31T16:02:15","modified_gmt":"2020-03-31T16:02:15","slug":"collect-and-readings-9th-april-2020","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-9th-april-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 9th April 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thursday 9th March &#8211; Maudy Thursday<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p> God our Father,<br>you have invited us to share in the supper<br>which your Son gave to his Church<br>to proclaim his death until he comes:<br>may he nourish us by his presence,<br>and unite us in his love;<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\n1 Corinthians 11.23\u201326\n          \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>23<\/sup>For I received from the Lord what I  also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was  betrayed took a loaf of bread, <sup>24<\/sup>and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, \u2018This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.\u2019 <sup>25<\/sup>In the same way he took the cup also, after  supper, saying, \u2018This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as  often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.\u2019 <sup>26<\/sup>For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord\u2019s death until he comes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\nJohn 13.1\u201317,31b\u201335\n          \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13 Now before the festival of the \nPassover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world \nand go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he \nloved them to the end.\n<sup>2<\/sup>The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him. And during supper\n<sup>3<\/sup>Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God,\n<sup>4<\/sup>got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself.\n<sup>5<\/sup>Then he poured water into a basin and began to \nwash the disciples\u2019 feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied \naround him.\n<sup>6<\/sup>He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, \u2018Lord, are you going to wash my feet?\u2019\n<sup>7<\/sup>Jesus answered, \u2018You do not know now what I am doing, but later you will understand.\u2019\n<sup>8<\/sup>Peter said to him, \u2018You will never wash my feet.\u2019 Jesus answered, \u2018Unless I wash you, you have no share with me.\u2019\n<sup>9<\/sup>Simon Peter said to him, \u2018Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!\u2019\n<sup>10<\/sup>Jesus said to him, \u2018One who has bathed does not \nneed to wash, except for the feet, but is entirely clean. And you are \nclean, though not all of you.\u2019\n<sup>11<\/sup>For he knew who was to betray him; for this reason he said, \u2018Not all of you are clean.\u2019\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>12<\/sup>After he had washed their feet, had  put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, \u2018Do you  know what I have done to you? <sup>13<\/sup>You call me Teacher and Lord\u2014and you are right, for that is what I am. <sup>14<\/sup>So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another\u2019s feet. <sup>15<\/sup>For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. <sup>16<\/sup>Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. <sup>17<\/sup>If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>31<\/sup>When he had gone out, Jesus said, \u2018Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. <sup>32<\/sup>If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once. <sup>33<\/sup>Little children, I am with you only a little  longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to  you, \u201cWhere I am going, you cannot come.\u201d <sup>34<\/sup>I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
