{"id":4083,"date":"2020-03-31T16:13:44","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T16:13:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=4083"},"modified":"2020-03-31T16:13:44","modified_gmt":"2020-03-31T16:13:44","slug":"collect-and-readings-19th-april-2020","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-19th-april-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 19th April 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 19th April &#8211;  Second Sunday of Easter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p> Risen Christ,<br>for whom no door is locked, no entrance barred:<br>open the doors of our hearts,<br>that we may seek the good of others<br>and walk the joyful road of sacrifice and peace,<br>to the praise of God the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>  Acts 2.14a,22\u201332    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>14<\/sup> But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: \u2018Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>22 <\/sup>\u2018You that are Israelites, listen to what I have to say: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know\u2014 <sup>23<\/sup>this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. <sup>24<\/sup>But God raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. <sup>25<\/sup>For David says concerning him,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI saw the Lord always before me,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken;<br><sup>26<\/sup> therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0moreover, my flesh will live in hope.<br><sup>27<\/sup> For you will not abandon my soul to Hades,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0or let your Holy One experience corruption.<br><sup>28<\/sup> You have made known to me the ways of life;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0you will make me full of gladness with your presence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>29<\/sup> \u2018Fellow Israelites, I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. <sup>30<\/sup>Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne. <sup>31<\/sup>Foreseeing this, David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, saying,<br>\u201cHe was not abandoned to Hades,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0nor did his flesh experience corruption.\u201d<br><sup>32<\/sup>This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p> John 20. 19\u201331             <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>19 <\/sup>When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, \u2018Peace be with you.\u2019 <sup>20<\/sup>After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. <sup>21<\/sup>Jesus said to them again, \u2018Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.\u2019 <sup>22<\/sup>When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, \u2018Receive the Holy Spirit. <sup>23<\/sup>If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>24<\/sup> But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. <sup>25<\/sup>So the other disciples told him, \u2018We have seen the Lord.\u2019 But he said to them, \u2018Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>26<\/sup> A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, \u2018Peace be with you.\u2019 <sup>27<\/sup>Then he said to Thomas, \u2018Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.\u2019 <sup>28<\/sup>Thomas answered him, \u2018My Lord and my God!\u2019 <sup>29<\/sup>Jesus said to him, \u2018Have you believed because you have seen me?
