{"id":4088,"date":"2020-03-31T16:29:09","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T16:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=4088"},"modified":"2020-03-31T16:29:09","modified_gmt":"2020-03-31T16:29:09","slug":"collect-and-readings-26th-april-2020","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-26th-april-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 26th April 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 26th April &#8211;  Third Sunday of Easter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Almighty Father,<br>who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0with the sight of the risen Lord:<br>give us such knowledge of his presence with us,<br>that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life<br>and serve you continually in righteousness and truth;<br>through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>   Acts 2.14a,36\u201341 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>14 <\/sup>But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: \u2018Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>36<\/sup>Therefore let the entire house  of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and  Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>37<\/sup>Now\n when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and \nto the other apostles, \u2018Brothers, what should we do?\u2019\n<sup>38<\/sup>Peter said to them, \u2018Repent, and be baptized \nevery one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be \nforgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.\n<sup>39<\/sup>For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.\u2019\n<sup>40<\/sup>And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, \u2018Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.\u2019\n<sup>41<\/sup>So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p> Luke 24.13\u201335    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13<\/sup> Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, <sup>14<\/sup>and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. <sup>15<\/sup>While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, <sup>16<\/sup>but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. <sup>17<\/sup>And he said to them, \u2018What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?\u2019 They stood still, looking sad.<sup>18<\/sup>Then  one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, \u2018Are you the only  stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place  there in these days?\u2019 <sup>19<\/sup>He asked them, \u2018What things?\u2019 They replied, \u2018The  things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and  word before God and all the people, <sup>20<\/sup>and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. <sup>21<\/sup>But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem  Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these  things took place. <sup>22<\/sup>Moreover, some women of our group astounded us.
