The sixth Thy Kingdom Come<\/em><\/strong> prayer season will run from Ascension Day<\/strong>, Thursday 21 May, to Pentecost Sunday<\/strong>, 31 May, inclusive. While unplanned, the lockdown context in which this year\u2019s prayer takes place echoes the \u2018upper room\u2019 context in which Jesus\u2019 followers prayed in the pause between his ascension to heaven and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. Now, as then, God\u2019s people are genuinely asking the Lord to reveal his purpose<\/strong>, presence<\/strong> and power<\/strong> in the face of uncertainty of how they would fulfil his command to continue his mission on earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Diocese of Lichfield, which is our diocese, is taking part in that in a number of ways and full details can be found on the The Kingdom Come page<\/a> of the diocesan website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join us to hear <\/strong>40 mins of worship including reflections and prayer, bringing together leaders and members of different denominations across the Diocese of Lichfield and the West Midlands. The service will be available on the The Kingdom Come page<\/a> of the diocesan website, on the diocesan Facebook Group<\/a> and on YouTube<\/a> – available from 10am on 21st<\/sup> May.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Night Prayer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Each evening from Ascension to Pentecost 21-31 May Night Prayer will be streamed, led by members of the Bishop\u2019s Staff. Further details to follow on the The Kingdom Come page<\/a> of the diocesan website.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Thy Kingdom Come?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Every single day hundreds of millions say the prayer Jesus put on our lips, praying \u2018Thy Kingdom Come\u2019. In the past few years, the focus of our prayers between Ascension and Pentecost has been for the coming of the God\u2019s Kingdom that the church will be equipped to fulfil its mission and that family members, neighbours, friends and work colleagues will come to faith in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It started in 2016 as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Church of England, and has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer. It is a gift to us of a rhythm of daily prayer and Bible readings. Recognising our need of the Holy Spirit to inspire and equip us to share the Good News of Jesus, we pray \u2018Come Holy Spirit\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than ever, Thy Kingdom Come offers the opportunity to engage in concerted prayer for the coming of God\u2019s kingdom.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
