{"id":6538,"date":"2020-10-10T09:34:54","date_gmt":"2020-10-10T09:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=6538"},"modified":"2020-12-13T16:09:10","modified_gmt":"2020-12-13T16:09:10","slug":"collect-and-readings-18th-october-2020","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-18th-october-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 18th October 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 18th October &#8211; St Luke the Evangelist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Almighty God,<br>you called Luke the physician,<br>whose praise is in the gospel,<br>to be an evangelist and physician of the soul:<br>by the grace of the Spirit<br>and through the wholesome medicine of the gospel,<br>give your Church the same love and power to heal;<br>through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Isaiah 35.3\u20136<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>3<\/sup> Strengthen the weak hands,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and make firm the feeble knees.<br><sup>4<\/sup> Say to those who are of a fearful heart,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u2018Be strong, do not fear!<br>Here is your God.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He will come with vengeance,<br>with terrible recompense.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He will come and save you.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>5<\/sup> Then the eyes of the blind shall be&nbsp;opened,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the ears of the deaf unstopped;<br><sup>6<\/sup> then the lame shall leap like a&nbsp;deer,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy.<br>For waters shall break forth in the wilderness,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and streams in the desert;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Luke 10.1\u20139<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10 After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. <sup>2<\/sup>He said to them, \u2018The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. <sup>3<\/sup>Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. <sup>4<\/sup>Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. <sup>5<\/sup>Whatever house you enter, first say, \u201cPeace to this house!\u201d <sup>6<\/sup>And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you. <sup>7<\/sup>Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the labourer deserves to be paid.
