{"id":6620,"date":"2020-10-17T09:53:51","date_gmt":"2020-10-17T09:53:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=6620"},"modified":"2020-12-13T16:08:57","modified_gmt":"2020-12-13T16:08:57","slug":"collect-and-readings-25th-october-2020","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-25th-october-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 25th October 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 25th October &#8211; Last Sunday after Trinity &#8211; Bible Sunday<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Blessed Lord,<br>who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning:<br>help us so to hear them,<br>to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them<br>that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word,<br>we may embrace and for ever hold fast<br>the hope of everlasting life,<br>which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ,<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Leviticus 19.1\u20132,15\u201318<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>2<\/sup>&nbsp;Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>15<\/sup>&nbsp;You shall not render an unjust judgement; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great: with justice you shall judge your neighbour. <sup>16<\/sup>You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not profit by the blood of your neighbour: I am the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>17<\/sup>&nbsp;You shall not hate in your heart anyone of your kin; you shall reprove your neighbour, or you will incur guilt yourself. <sup>18<\/sup>You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbour as yourself: I am the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Matthew 22.34\u201346<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>34<\/sup>&nbsp;When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, <sup>35<\/sup>and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. <sup>36<\/sup>\u2018Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?\u2019 <sup>37<\/sup>He said to him, \u2018 \u201cYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.\u201d <sup>38<\/sup>This is the greatest and first commandment. <sup>39<\/sup>And a second is like it: \u201cYou shall love your neighbour as yourself.\u201d <sup>40<\/sup>On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>41<\/sup>&nbsp;Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them this question: <sup>42<\/sup>\u2018What do you think of the Messiah?
