{"id":6629,"date":"2020-10-17T19:59:12","date_gmt":"2020-10-17T19:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=6629"},"modified":"2020-12-13T16:08:38","modified_gmt":"2020-12-13T16:08:38","slug":"collect-and-readings-1st-november-2020","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-1st-november-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 1st November 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 1st November &#8211; All Saints\u2019 Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almighty God,<br>you have knit together your elect<br>in one communion and fellowship<br>in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord:<br>grant us grace so to follow your blessed saints<br>in all virtuous and godly living<br>that we may come to those inexpressible joys<br>that you have prepared for those who truly love you;<br>through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Revelation 7.9\u201317<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>9<\/sup>&nbsp;After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. <sup>10<\/sup>They cried out in a loud voice, saying,<br>\u2018Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!\u2019<br><sup>11<\/sup>And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God, <sup>12<\/sup>singing,<br>\u2018Amen! Blessing and glory and&nbsp;wisdom<br>and thanksgiving and honour<br>and power and might<br>be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>13<\/sup>&nbsp;Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, \u2018Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?\u2019 <sup>14<\/sup>I said to him, \u2018Sir, you are the one that knows.\u2019 Then he said to me, \u2018These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.<br><sup>15<\/sup> For this reason they are before the throne of God,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and worship him day and night within his temple,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.<br><sup>16<\/sup> They will hunger no more, and thirst no more;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the sun will not strike them,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;nor any scorching heat;<br><sup>17<\/sup> for the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and he will guide them to springs of the water of life,<br>and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matthew 5.1\u201312<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5&nbsp;When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. <sup>2<\/sup>Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>3<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>4<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>5<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>6<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>7<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>8<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>9<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>10<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness\u2019 sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>11<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2018Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. <sup>12<\/sup>Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All collects and readings appointed for this day as well as the orders of Morning  Prayer, Evening Prayer and Night Prayer can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/almanac.oremus.org\/2020-11-01\">almanac.oremus.org\/2020-11-01<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday 1st November &#8211;
