Having moved from the body of the church to join the choir as an associate, my physical view has changed by 90 degrees. It has made little or no difference to the experience. In fact being in the choir has added a further dimension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a young alto in my school choir, I had the privilege of singing in a whole school production of Bach\u2019s B Minor mass in Peterborough Cathedral. Singing into a high vaulted ceiling is a wonderful experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"The<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In St. Chad’s Patingham, we have a beautiful high nave into which the choir can sing as well. It does not have the grandeur of a cathedral but the experience is similar.\u00a0 I can thoroughly recommend it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact of the coronavirus has meant we have needed to stand further apart and become more self sufficient when singing in parts. So it is not such a bad thing, at least something useful has come about as a result of the epidemic.

Sunday 1st November – All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Sunday<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Elaine Dow will be leading the Worship on the Web service for All Saints’ Day. It will be a Family Service for the first Sunday of the month. The music will be provided by Greg and the virtual choir as usual. It will be screened in church as part of the service at 10 am, which will be followed by a brief service of Holy Communion for those who wish to stay. It will also be on the Worship on the Web<\/a> page of the website from 10 am. For those without internet access it will also be on the Dial a Service phehone line (01902 906585) from 9 am – until then last Sunday’s service is on the phone line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The traditional All Souls Service<\/strong> of Thanksgiving and Remembrance will be available online only. It was recorded in church with the choir singing the hymns. It will be available from 6.30 pm on the Worship on the Web<\/a> page of the website. You may wish to have a candle to hand while watching so that you can light it at the appropriate time in memory of a loved one – paying attention to health safety (we don’t want to hear fire alarms). It will not be on the Dial a Service phone line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collect and readings<\/a> for the Eucharist, which would normally be on the pewsheet, are available on the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During the week Maureen (or occasionally Ken) will stream Morning Prayer and Compline (Night Prayer) on Facebook Live<\/a>. Morning Prayer will be at 8.30 am and Compline will be at 9.30 pm (there will be no Compline on Friday).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The church will be open for private prayer on Tuesday and Friday between 2.30 and 4.30 pm if a volunteer is available<\/em>.<\/strong> If anyone would like to volunteer for this week or a future week please contact Maureen. The church calendar (which can be found on the church website at https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/information\/calendar\/<\/a>) will be updated to show that the church will be open when we have a volunteer to act as steward for that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday<\/strong> there will be a service of Holy Communion<\/strong> according to the Book of Common Prayer in church at 10.00 am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday 8th November – Remembrance Sunday
<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There will not be a service in church but the Worship on the Web service, which will be available only online, will be an Act of Worship and Remembrance for Remembrance Sunday. If it is still permitted there will also be an Act of Remembrance  starting at 10.45 am outside the Village Hall during which we will observe the 2 minutes’ silence at 11 o’clock. Those who attend must observe social distancing between households and are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings. At the conclusion of ceremony any wreaths that have been presented will be carried into church by the Vicar and Churchwardens and laid at the War Memorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
