{"id":8283,"date":"2021-06-03T21:37:47","date_gmt":"2021-06-03T21:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=8283"},"modified":"2021-06-03T21:42:44","modified_gmt":"2021-06-03T21:42:44","slug":"collect-and-readings-20th-june-2021","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-20th-june-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 20th June 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 20th June &#8211; Third Sunday after Trinity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Almighty God,<br>you have broken the tyranny of sin<br>and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts<br>whereby we call you Father:<br>give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service,<br>that we and all creation may be brought<br>to the glorious liberty of the children of God;<br>through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Job 38.1\u201311<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>38 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind:<br><sup>2<\/sup> \u2018Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?<br><sup>3<\/sup> Gird up your loins like a man,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I will question you, and you shall declare to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>4<\/sup> \u2018Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Tell me, if you have understanding.<br><sup>5<\/sup> Who determined its measurements\u2014surely you know!<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Or who stretched the line upon it?<br><sup>6<\/sup> On what were its bases sunk,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;or who laid its cornerstone<br><sup>7<\/sup> when the morning stars sang together<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>8<\/sup> \u2018Or who shut in the sea with doors<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;when it burst out from the womb?\u2014<br><sup>9<\/sup> when I made the clouds its garment,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and thick darkness its swaddling band,<br><sup>10<\/sup> and prescribed bounds for it,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and set bars and doors,<br><sup>11<\/sup> and said, \u201cThus far shall you come, and no farther,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and here shall your proud waves be stopped\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark 4.35\u201341<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>35<\/sup>&nbsp;On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, \u2018Let us go across to the other side.\u2019 <sup>36<\/sup>And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. <sup>37<\/sup>A great gale arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. <sup>38<\/sup>But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, \u2018Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?\u2019 <sup>39<\/sup>He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, \u2018Peace! Be still!\u2019 Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. <sup>40<\/sup>He said to them, \u2018Why are you afraid?
