{"id":8285,"date":"2021-06-03T21:41:58","date_gmt":"2021-06-03T21:41:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=8285"},"modified":"2021-06-03T21:41:58","modified_gmt":"2021-06-03T21:41:58","slug":"collect-and-readings-27th-june-2021","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-27th-june-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 27th June 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 27th June &#8211; Fourth Sunday after Trinity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>O God, the protector of all who trust in you,<br>without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy:<br>increase and multiply upon us your mercy;<br>that with you as our ruler and guide<br>we may so pass through things temporal<br>that we lose not our hold on things eternal;<br>grant this, heavenly Father,<br>for our Lord Jesus Christ\u2019s sake,<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Wisdom of Solomon 1.13\u201315; 2.23,24<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13<\/sup> because God did not make death,<br>and he does not delight in the death of the living.<br><sup>14<\/sup> For he created all things so that they might exist;<br>the generative forces of the world are wholesome,<br>and there is no destructive poison in them,<br>and the dominion of Hades is not on earth.<br><sup>15<\/sup> For righteousness is immortal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>23<\/sup> for God created us for incorruption,<br>and made us in the image of his own eternity,<br><sup>24<\/sup> but through the devil\u2019s envy death entered the world,<br>and those who belong to his company experience it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark 5.21\u201343<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>21&nbsp;When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered round him; and he was by the lake. <sup>22<\/sup>Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet <sup>23<\/sup>and begged him repeatedly, \u2018My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.\u2019 <sup>24<\/sup>So he went with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. <sup>25<\/sup>Now there was a woman who had been suffering from haemorrhages for twelve years. <sup>26<\/sup>She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. <sup>27<\/sup>She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, <sup>28<\/sup>for she said, \u2018If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.\u2019 <sup>29<\/sup>Immediately her haemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. <sup>30<\/sup>Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, \u2018Who touched my clothes?\u2019 <sup>31<\/sup>And his disciples said to him, \u2018You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, \u201cWho touched me?\u201d \u2019 <sup>32<\/sup>He looked all round to see who had done it. <sup>33<\/sup>But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. <sup>34<\/sup>He said to her, \u2018Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>35\u00a0While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader\u2019s house to say, \u2018Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?\u2019 <sup>36<\/sup>But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, \u2018Do not fear, only believe.\u2019 <sup>37<\/sup>He allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. <sup>38<\/sup>When they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. <sup>39<\/sup>When he had entered, he said to them, \u2018Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.\u2019 <sup>40<\/sup>And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside, and took the child\u2019s father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. <sup>41<\/sup>He took her by the hand and said to her, \u2018Talitha cum\u2019, which means, \u2018Little girl, get up!\u2019 <sup>42<\/sup>And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age).
