{"id":8517,"date":"2021-07-28T22:05:44","date_gmt":"2021-07-28T22:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=8517"},"modified":"2021-07-28T22:05:44","modified_gmt":"2021-07-28T22:05:44","slug":"collect-and-readings-15th-august-2021","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-15th-august-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 15th August 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 15th August &#8211; Eleventh Sunday after Trinity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>O God, you declare your almighty power<br>most chiefly in showing mercy and pity:<br>mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace,<br>that we, running the way of your commandments,<br>may receive your gracious promises,<br>and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure;<br>through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Proverbs 9.1\u20136<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9 Wisdom has built her house,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0she has hewn her seven pillars.<br><sup>2<\/sup> She has slaughtered her animals, she has mixed her wine,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0she has also set her table.<br><sup>3<\/sup> She has sent out her servant-girls, she calls<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from the highest places in the\u00a0town,<br><sup>4<\/sup> \u2018You that are simple, turn in here!\u2019<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To those without sense she says,<br><sup>5<\/sup> \u2018Come, eat of my bread<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and drink of the wine I have mixed.<br><sup>6<\/sup> Lay aside immaturity, and live,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and walk in the way of insight.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>John 6.51\u201358<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>51<\/sup> I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>52<\/sup>&nbsp;The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, \u2018How can this man give us his flesh to eat?\u2019 <sup>53<\/sup>So Jesus said to them, \u2018Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. <sup>54<\/sup>Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; <sup>55<\/sup>for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. <sup>56<\/sup>Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. <sup>57<\/sup>Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. <sup>58<\/sup>This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died.
