{"id":8587,"date":"2021-08-16T11:32:41","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T11:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/?page_id=8587"},"modified":"2021-08-16T11:32:41","modified_gmt":"2021-08-16T11:32:41","slug":"collect-and-readings-12th-september-2021","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/services\/collects-and-readings\/collect-and-readings-12th-september-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Collect and readings &#8211; 12th September 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 12th September &#8211; Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit<br>upon your Church in the burning fire of your love:<br>grant that your people may be fervent<br>in the fellowship of the gospel<br>that, always abiding in you,<br>they may be found steadfast in faith and active in service;<br>through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,<br>who is alive and reigns with you,<br>in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br>one God, now and for ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Isaiah 50.4\u20139a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>4<\/sup> The Lord God has given me<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the tongue of a teacher,<br>that I may know how to sustain<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the weary with a word.<br>Morning by morning he wakens\u2014<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;wakens my ear<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;to listen as those who are taught.<br><sup>5<\/sup> The Lord God has opened my ear,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and I was not rebellious,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I did not turn backwards.<br><sup>6<\/sup> I gave my back to those who struck&nbsp;me,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard;<br>I did not hide my face<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;from insult and spitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7<\/sup> The Lord God helps me;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0therefore I have not been disgraced;<br>therefore I have set my face like\u00a0flint,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and I know that I shall not be put to shame;<br><sup>8<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he who vindicates me is near.<br>Who will contend with me?<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Let us stand up together.<br>Who are my adversaries?<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Let them confront me.<br><sup>9<\/sup> It is the Lord God who helps me;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0who will declare me guilty?<br>All of them will wear out like a garment;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the moth will eat them up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark 8.27\u201338<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>27<\/sup>&nbsp;Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, \u2018Who do people say that I am?\u2019 <sup>28<\/sup>And they answered him, \u2018John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.\u2019 <sup>29<\/sup>He asked them, \u2018But who do you say that I am?\u2019 Peter answered him, \u2018You are the Messiah.\u2019<sup>30<\/sup>And he sternly ordered them not to tell anyone about him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>31<\/sup>&nbsp;Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. <sup>32<\/sup>He said all this quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. <sup>33<\/sup>But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, \u2018Get behind me, Satan!
