‘Churchwardens’ Chat’<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

We are now in an interregnum following the retirement of the Vicar and so the monthly letter for the Parish News is written by the Churchwardens<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

October 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a knock at the door and a young man enquired if we had any old newspapers for his family to make their scarecrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After handing him the pile of papers waiting to go in the blue bin, he said \u201cperfect \u2014 just what we need and then proceeded to talk about the construction of their scarecrow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are writing this before the festival takes place but what tremendous fun it has generated already!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are grateful to the scarecrow festival committee members for their hard work and all their efforts to enable the event to go ahead, with safety at the forefront of their planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People are beginning to feel more confident about returning to church and it has been so good to worship together and then enjoy a cup of coffee. We are grateful to the people who volunteer for the coffee rota because without you we would not have this time together for a hot drink and \u2018catch-up\u2019!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have also welcomed a few more young people into church: it was great to meet you and we hope you will continue to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have to mention, too, how wonderful it was to see in the fields the fruition of the hard work of our farmers and at the time of writing we look forward to our Harvest Songs of Praise when we shall give joyous thanks for Harvest time!.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our eco-church team continues to examine the five areas of commitment: worship and teaching, buildings, land, community and global engagement, and lifestyle, through which we hope improve our practice, to show more care for God\u2019s creation. We already have achieved the bronze and silver eco-church awards and now work towards the gold standard!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The churches in our Deanery continue to support us by sharing their priests and we in turn look forward to having our new vicar in the future and the opportunity to share our resources with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This collaboration is being strengthened by the Shaping for Mission team in our Deanery as we try to do God\u2019s work as Christians together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, we give thanks for the inspiration we drew from the summer Olympics and Para-Olympics, and of course from 18-year-old Emma Raducanu. We reflect on the athletes\u2019 wonderful achievement, supported by their trainers and families – after so much hard work and at times disappointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We pray for similar perseverance and energy to overcome obstacles, think imaginatively and spread the Good News!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We continue to plan for a new vicar, praying for faith, hope, strength and the light of Christ to guide us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
