So much conflict, famine, drought, and poverty resulting in deprivation and suffering. Whilst it is good to remember to pray for all who are suffering, we must also all do what we can through giving our time, talents, and money to support others, who can provide much needed help to people, both overseas and in this country. We must not forget people who have made mistakes, broken the law, maybe gone to prison, and are trying to reform and build a new life, escaping conflict and addiction. A small donation, a gift to a charity shop and the power of prayer will make a difference. The war in the Ukraine is a focus for us all to so what we can.

The song “He’s got the whole world in his hands….” reminds us that in looking after our universe, God is also, always looking after us an individual. The song is based on Psalm 95 which tells of God’s greatness.

In thinking about God’s greatness, we know God loves each one of us and asks us to follow His laws or commandments that we look after our neighbour. In our busy lives this is often a commandment which is hard to keep; we tend to think of big gestures which take time, planning, huge resources and are often ‘one off’ events. I think God is also asking us to remember to love our neighbour in the little everyday things as well. A kind word, patience in the queue in the shop, time to listen to someone’s troubles and to ask, “how can I help you?” Thoughtfulness, a moments attention and always a prayer for those in need, these are some of the ways in which we can show love for our neighbour. I recall a post someone told me about on social media earlier in the year, made by a supermarket cashier reporting a man at the checkout worried about whether he could afford the items in his trolley and someone standing behind him in the queue just paid for the items himself. The man was so grateful he burst into tears. This shows the story of the ‘Good Samaritan’ is truly alive today! Let us all think about how we can be good Samaritans here in Pattingham and beyond next week.

Psalm 95 contains a call for us to seek God’s presence, joyfully giving thanks for what God has done. We do this in prayer but also in our worship. Why not join us in one of our services to thank God for his greatness and to enjoy the fellowship of spending time together?

God Bless,

Dorothy Steel

Would you like to write a View from the Pews?

We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject.
