Among the items discussed were:

Services

From April there will be fewer clergy in the deanery available to take our services as the Rector of Wombourne is retiring.

There will continue to be a 10 am service every Sunday but sometimes it will not include Communion. If there is no Communion at 10 am we will try to arrange a Communion service at either 6 30 pm or 8 am but there may be some Sundays when we are not able to hold a Communion service at all.

We have altered the planned services for Sunday 5th June, which is the Feast of Pentecost (otherwise known as Whitsunday) and also the weekend of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The 10 am service will be a Platinum Jubilee Thanksgiving Service, which will not include Communion. At 6.30 pm on that day, however, there will be an Evening Communion Service for Pentecost.

Trees in the churchyard

Craig Watkins of Morfe Valley Arboricultural has advised the PCC about management of trees in the churchyard. Two of the trees in the older part of the new churchyard towards the south west corner) were felled in recent years and we will plant two laburnums to replace those.

Two of the rowans in the memorial avenue in the middle of the new churchyard extension have died and they will be replaced by new rowans.

To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee we have decided to plant ten Pride of India trees (koelreuteria paniculata) in two avenues along the sides of the new churchyard extension.

Although we are not launching an appeal to raise funds for this work if anyone would like to contribute to the cost of the jubilee avenues they would be welcome to do so. Please speak to one of the churchwardens if would like more information.

Church Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday 8th May at 11.15 am (after the morning service). Reports and copies of the accounts will be available before that meeting and there will an opportunity to ask questions.

Members of the PCC will be elected at the meeting and there will be at least six vacancies to be filled. If you would like to find out about what is involved in being a member of the PCC speak to any member – or former member – of the PCC. There is some information on the church website.

Before the meeting, the church electoral roll has to be revised and that will be completed on 17th April. Although everyone is welcome to attend the meeting but only those who are on the church electoral roll by 17th April will be able to vote.

Those on either church electoral roll or the local government electoral roll can vote in the election of churchwardens.

The current members of the PCC are: Philip Sims (Chairman), Tony Ainsworth, Gordon Bramall, Carol Broxton, Geoffrey Dann, Henry Ibberson, Clive Pendrell, Ken Scott, Alan Smith and Dorothy Steel.

Previous meeting – Next meeting – Index Snippets from the PCC Meeting – 8th March 2022 The PCC’s meeting on 8th March was held in church.
