We are so fortunate to enjoy the support of so many visiting clergy whilst I think we like to claim that James Makepeace is one of our own! He is always such a joy and never fails to give us plenty to think about. Our sincere thanks go to them all.

Whilst the numbers attending any service give us all a lift, I want to make mention of the magnificent flower arrangements in Church on Easter Day. We are so fortunate to have the members of the Pattingham Flower Club using all their skills and artistry to make our Church so beautiful and our huge thanks go to each one of them. The next time we shall see such splendour is during the weekend of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee when the Flower Club will once again be decorating our Church. This will be an event not to be missed, along with many others that weekend, and so I would urge you to put the date into your diaries.

Many churches tend to go into decline during the period of an interregnum and I am delighted to say that I see no evidence of that at St Chad’s. One of the reasons for that is that we have a committed and energised PCC which takes seriously its responsibility to grow our church. It is currently involved in the organisation of arrangements for the Jubilee celebrations in the village, several re-ordering projects, including the much talked about north aisle project, how we augment our choir and other musical activities, the development of our community presence and the possible recruitment of a community resource, the recruitment of a Vicar and how we respond to the need to develop our relationships with other churches within the deanery. This is not an exhaustive list and there are other issues which are also exercising our minds.

I do, however, wish to make an appeal. The PCC is a small group and whilst we need additional hands, we also need fresh ideas, we need to be challenged and therefore, irrespective of your church experience to date, would you join us? It is an exciting place to be at present, a place where we do not wish to restrict our future by limiting it to our past, a place where we encourage innovation and new thinking. Would you consider being part of that future? Do bear in mind that the PCC is not a talking shop, it is a team of doers also and we do need to augment that team.

This is an appeal to everyone, please do not wait to be asked but rather be a volunteer and speak to me, the Wardens or anyone else on the PCC if you would like to be part of making a difference to our Church. It may be that you would prefer to do other things rather than sit on the PCC. Well there is an endless list – from sidespeople to servers to choir members, from supporting Anna with our young people to taking responsibility for health and safety or helping Gena with safeguarding.

If we are to be a vibrant Church we need everyone to play their full part and can I again appeal to you to consider what you might do in the further development of our Church?

Philip Sims
PCC Chairman

Would you like to write a View from the Pews?

We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject.
