This change has already been carried out in most churches in our deanery. For those who would prefer to do so it will be possible to receive bread only but intinction (dipping the bread in the wine) will no longer be possible. Alternatively, a blessing at the altar rail can be given for individuals who choose not to receive.

View from the Pews

“Love is His Word”
(Richer than gold is the love of my Lord) – Luke Connaughton (1917 – 1979)

I often think about the Bible in awe and wonder! But more frequently, when I think of all those pages full of subtle, meaningful messages signposting for living a Christian life, I become overwhelmed by the sheer size and volume of it! This is why I frequently say “I don’t know much about the Bible” because I truly feel however long my life is, I shall never ‘finish’ it!

But really, I don’t think we are supposed to ever feel we have ‘finished’ it. Rather it is a companion for life, to consult, to influence, guide and to give comfort and joy! So from my point of view, it’s absolutely OK to use your Bible in different ways to suit the time you have and to support where you are on your personal Christian journey and what you are seeking in prayer.

I often return to familiar passages which I can read, re-read and each time gain something fresh from His Word. One of my ‘go to parts’ is 1 Corinthians – Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. He writes about some of the difficulties which can arise when trying to lead a Christian life and this is so relevant to us all today. When I am very busy and tell myself I am far too busy to spend time reading the Bible, I re-visit in my prayer 3 simple words – FAITH – HOPE – LOVE.

If we can try to live our lives in Faith, Hope and Love, and share this message with others, showing care and kindness, I think we are on the right road, even if at times it seems long. There is always something new around every corner!

God Bless
Dorothy Steel

Would you like to write a View from the Pews?

We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject.
