She says I should do far less reading and much more housework. I argue that my twice weekly shopping trips to Sainsbury\u2019s are sufficient contribution to the household chores.&nbsp; Actually, I could easily do our weekly shop in one trip but that would give me less time to browse the biography sections in the library and the two charity shops. And I refuse to exchange the few minutes I spend reading the weekly \u2018View\u2019 for a vacuum cleaner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I love biographies including \u2018View\u2019 which gives me an insight into the experiences and minds of people who live nearby so I can easily relate to them. I particularly enjoyed Gladys\u2019s recent contribution where she said, \u2018Aren\u2019t we lucky! Many people would love to live in Pattingham. We can be cheered by God\u2019s gift of creation; the sky is often blue, the sun is warm, the birds are singing. And in this beautiful place we have friends.\u2019 Those few words cheered me a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I then read the article about Adam Peaty in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games programme and was left with an altogether different emotion. Adam is a Staffordshire lad from Uttoxeter. As a child he was terrified of water and screamed when his parents took him to their local swimming pool. His journey from that fear to 31 gold medals and countless world records is overwhelming. Adam is blessed with huge feet and hands and very long legs which helps enormously in breast stroke swimming. But even more impressive is his work ethic. His coach says she has never seen anyone who could match his commitment and training load. Typically, his day starts at 6.30 in the pool with a minimum of 10,000 metres (that\u2019s 400 lengths of Wolverhampton swimming pool) followed by at least 4 hours in the gym pushing heavy weights. His target is \u2018Project Immortal\u2019 which is a time that will never be beaten. He says he has to be utterly ruthless with a complete lack of mercy for fellow competitors. \u2018It\u2019s got to be war,\u2019 he says. \u2018You\u2019ve got to treat them like they\u2019re going to take something away from you because they are. The red mist for me is my super strength. I can use my anger to the nth degree.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was left feeling that this was indeed a determined, perhaps&nbsp; angry young man but comforted a little by how his life has changed with fatherhood; a whole new perspective.&nbsp; I can relate to the new Peaty but not so much to the old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adam\u2019s \u2018Project Immortal\u2019 was inspired by British triple jumper Jonathan Edwards who set a world record for the triple jump of 18.29 metres in 1995 and it remains unbeaten. Surely that\u2019s \u2018immortal.\u2019 In his biography, Jonathan describes his early life as the son of a vicar and how he refused to compete on Sundays because of his&nbsp; Christian beliefs.&nbsp; However, in 1993 after much deliberation and discussions with his father, he changed his mind, deciding that God gave him talent to compete in athletics and that it would be right to demonstrate that to the world. He said that his relationship with God was fundamental to everything he did and he committed to serving God in every area of his life. Jonathan became a role model for many young athletes around the world and for that we should thank him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And thank you Gladys for mentioning the proposed Pattingham Chill Out Club which aims to bring young people together and help them explore new opportunities and make the most of their talents. Jonathan certainly made the very best of his talent in sport and there is much more for our young people to enjoy.&nbsp; Chill Out will need volunteers to work with young people \u2013 perhaps it could be you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So no, I won\u2019t be unleashing the vacuum cleaner and yes, I will find more inspiring stories to read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tony Taylor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"would-you-like-to-write-a-view-from-the-pews\">Would you like to write a View from the Pews?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We welcome contributions for View from the Pews from anyone who would like to write one, It does not need to be on any particular subject. On other days of the week the church will remain open until at least 6.30 pm and there will be a sheet of prayers left in the Lady Chapel for people to use if they wish. If you would like to join the team of people who take turns to lead the Prayers for Peace please contact Mary Hayward (<a href=\"mailto:maryleah@hotmail.co.uk\">maryleah@hotmail.co.uk<\/a>)<em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On Wednesday<\/strong> there will be a service of <strong>Holy Communion<\/strong> according to the Book of Common Prayer, led by Revd James Makepeace, in church at 10.00 am which will be followed by tea, coffee and cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>Wednesday at 11 am<\/strong> the <strong>ashes of William Knight<\/strong> will be interred in the churchyard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>Friday <\/strong>the <strong>wedding of Jamie Milner and Hannah Meehan <\/strong>takes place in church <strong>at 12 noon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Next_Sunday\">Sunday 4th September &#8211; Twelfth Sunday after Trinity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>At 10 am <\/strong>there will be a <strong>Family Service<\/strong> in church<strong>,<\/strong> led by Anna Davies. The children who attended the Holiday Club will help to present the service. We look forward to welcoming to church the children and their families at this service. During the service the children will be presented with their Certificates of Merit. It may be followed by <strong><strong>Holy Communion <\/strong><\/strong>for those who wish to stay but are waiting for confirmation that we will have a priest to take the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Coffee (and tea and biscuits) will be available after the service.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"HC\">Holday Club<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">32 children attended the Holiday Club at Kingswood which was held last Monday to Wednesday. The children who attended had great fun but also demonstrated a wide range of attributes and skills during the three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday 4th September the children and their families will be attending the Family Service and the children will help to present the service. During the service Philip Sims, the PCC Chairman, will present Certificates of Merit to the children which detail their achievements. It performs in theatres, churches and schools throughout the country and is currently performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It is well known for being a highly accomplished, professional and entertaining company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company is performing its latest production <strong>The Liberator<\/strong> on <strong>Saturday 24th September<\/strong> at <strong>7.30pm<\/strong> at <strong>Christ Church, Tettenhall Wood<\/strong>. Tickets are \u00a310 each.
