Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who will miss and mourn her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appropriate prayers will be said at the services on Sunday and the church will be open as usual for private prayer every day. There may be changes to other arrangements during the period of mourning. Further information will be posted on the church website (<a href=\"www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\">www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk<\/a>) as it becomes available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The church flag is flying at half mast and will continue at half mast until after Her Majesty&#8217;s funeral. When the bells are rung they will be half muffled. Information about a Book of Condolence and other arragements will be announced in due course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For logistical reasons this edition of ChadNet has had to be published on Friday and so cannot be as up to date as we would like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In this week&#8217;s ChadNet:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"#View\">View from the Pews<\/a> &#8211; Lisa Ainsworth<\/li><li><a href=\"#This_Sunday\">Sunday 11th September<\/a> &#8211; Thirteenth Sunday after Trinity<\/li><li><a href=\"#This_week\">This week<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Next_Sunday\">Sunday 18th September<\/a> &#8211; Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity<\/li><li><a href=\"#IC\">Iain Coleman<\/a> &#8211; our new Reader<\/li><li><a href=\"#LPE\">Litter Picking Event<\/a> &#8211; Sunday 18th September<\/li><li><a href=\"#GP\">Garden Produce<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Mem_Book\">From the Memorial Book<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Resources\">Resources<\/a> to use at home<\/li><li><a href=\"#Giving\">Giving to the Church<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"View\">View from the Pews<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"180\" height=\"286\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/mascot-for-lisas-vfp.jpg\" alt=\"Commonwealth Games Mascot\" class=\"wp-image-9799\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Whilst reflecting and preparing to write a few paragraphs about my experiences as a volunteer, I read Jill Parkers View from the Pews, about her experiences as a volunteer in the Chaplaincy at the local prison.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a teenager, when I started working towards my Duke of Edinburgh award, one of the elements was Volunteering, I started my volunteer journey teaching Sunday School, and recently as a volunteer at the Commonwealth Games, previously I took residents from a long stay hospital on holiday and days out, sat as an independent member of a Local Authority Adoption Panel, plus many local events including the Pattingham Bells Run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are numerous reasons why people volunteer, it may be to gain experience towards a career goal, as a means to meet new people or give back to society, or help with their mental wellbeing. To some people, it\u2019s not even seen as volunteering it&#8217;s just giving back to the community or doing good work, others it&#8217;s being virtuous and the right thing to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever people\u2019s reason for volunteering, many organisations small and large, including our own Church, would not survive without people giving freely of their time. Within our local community events such as the Church Fete, the Scarecrow Festival, and even the day-to-day running of the Church through the PCC and the Church Wardens would not happen or the effectiveness of our church impacted. Within the Bible, it says we should use whatever gifts you have received to serve others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During lockdown we saw many acts of kindness both locally and in the wider community, simply helping each other in difficult times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My recent experience at the commonwealth games highlighted there is no barrier to who can get involved in volunteering, with all ages of people, from all backgrounds giving their time to help others, but sometimes you have to seek out the opportunities and don\u2019t be afraid to put yourself forward. In today\u2019s busy world finding spare time to help others is not always possible, but as our lives change, how we choose to use our free time may allow us to consider how we can use our gifts and skills to help others.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I was interviewed for the Commonwealth Games volunteer collective, I was asked why did I want to volunteer, for me, I have always found volunteering rewarding, often fun and for me sharing my time for the benefit of others is part of me. On other days of the week the church will remain open until at least 6.30 pm and there will be a sheet of prayers left in the Lady Chapel for people to use if they wish. If you would like to join the team of people who take turns to lead the Prayers for Peace please contact Mary Hayward (<a href=\"mailto:maryleah@hotmail.co.uk\">maryleah@hotmail.co.uk<\/a>)<em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Wednesday<\/strong> there will be a service of <strong>Holy Communion<\/strong> according to the Book of Common Prayer, led by Revd James Makepeace, in church at 10.00 am which will be followed by tea, coffee and cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">18th September &#8211; Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At 10 am <\/strong>there will be a <strong>service led by the Youth Group<\/strong><strong> in church. At the end of that part of the service there will be a break for coffee, tea and biscuits <\/strong>after which the service will resume with a <strong>service of <\/strong><strong>Holy Communion,<\/strong> led by Revd Sue Watson, for those who wish to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 11.30 am the Pattingham Litter Picking Event wll take place. It was a pleasure too to meet those with whom he has spent some time in the course of their studies which, by all accounts, were rigorous indeed and pretty challenging, so our tribute is to them all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The day started at 10.00 am with detailed rehearsals, where nothing was left to chance and both Readers designate and we sponsors were walked through the whole service to take place in the afternoon, before a special Eucharist service at 11.30, presided over by Bishop Michael and followed by what amounted to a \u2018pep talk\u2019 by him to all the 10 candidates, from which we were excluded! Iain didn\u2019t elaborate too much on this, but I suspect cards were marked, rather along the lines of the Chief Whip at Westminster!<br><br>A welcome light buffet lunch in College Close was provided at around 12.45 and then we returned to the Cathedral for the service at 2.00 pm, entitled a \u2018Celebration of New Ministry\u2019. It was packed with relatives and friends of the candidates and I must say it was a rousing service, full of colour and pageantry as you might expect, with all the deacons and archdeacons present in their finery, superb singing even though there was no choir ( \u2018Great is thy Faithfulness\u2019, \u2018 A new commandment I give unto you \u2018 \u2018 Be Thou my vision\u2019, \u2018Brother, sister let me serve you\u2019 ) and a wonderfully uplifting and encouraging sermon from Professor Clive Marsh, Principal of the Queen\u2019s Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education in Birmingham. He encouraged all the new Readers to keep fully grounded, in tune with their own community and above all \u2018to be thoroughly human\u2019 at all times. He himself is a Reader in the Methodist Church, so he was speaking from his own experience and I think all the new Readers found what he had to say particularly valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So now, we heartily congratulate Iain on his achievement, wishing him every success as he takes up his new role and assumes a different mantle, dipping himself once again into the cauldron of new ideas and plans for the future of St Chad\u2019s.
