Unfortunately, I fear the truthful answer is quite frequently! Are we very different – or are we all travelling along this same path, trying to be mindful of God’s presence in our lives but often choosing to ‘go our own way’? Yet, God forgives, again and again God forgives; not only forgives but shows love, care and comfort to us all. God embraces us throughout our lives – we only have to open our hearts and minds to recognise, accept with thanks and return this love.

I sometimes wonder what disappoints God the most? Clearly the big things like violence and aggression, harming others through greed and selfishness – but what about some of the smaller things? Not taking time to love and care for our neighbour? Carrying forward a grudge which prevents us from freely giving of ourselves? Showing little care or love for God’s wonderful creation – contributing to pollution, our misuse of precious water, leaving litter or graffiti to show where we have been?

We are all quite good at making mistakes, doing the wrong thing or ‘erring’. How do we find it in our hearts to follow the way of Christ and to forgive when others offend us? Ephesians tells us (4:31-32), “Get rid of all bitterness, passion and anger. No more shouting or insults, no more hateful feelings of any sort. Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ.”

As we continue to pray for all involved in wars and conflict around the world – and especially for Ukraine, we pray that all will find the path to forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Lord.
