Snippets from the PCC Meeting – 5th July 2022
The PCC’s meeting on 5th July was held in church. Among the items discussed were:
Trees in the churchyard
The PCC has reconsidered the decision taken a few months ago to plant two rows of trees in the new churchyard extension to mark the Platinum Jubilee. As a result of concerns about the effect of those trees on the availability of grave spaces and ashes plots we have decided not to plant those trees.
We have instead decided to ask Craig Watkins for advice about planting one or more trees in the old churchyard to mark the Jubilee.
We have not changed our plans to replace the two dead rowans in the memorial avenue and to plant two new laburnums in the new churchyard to replace trees felled in the last few years. That work should be completed soon.
Light bulbs
The existing halogen bulbs in the church will be replaced by LED bulbs. These will be more reliable and also more energy efficient and cheaper to run. We are seeking proposals and quotations to improve the lighting in the Lady Chapel.
Outreach and Growth
The Outreach and Growth Informal Working Group has been working on a number of projects and are making progress on some of them. With financial assistance from the PCC we should be able to start “Chill Out Clubs” for young people in the village, hopefully in the autumn. The group is also investigating how it would be possible to employ a youth and community worker.
Wheelchair
A new wheelchair is being bought to replace the two wheelchairs which we have had in church for some time, both of which were defective and no longer safe, so they have been disposed of.
PCC members
The members of the PCC are:
Philip Sims (Chairman), Tony Ainsworth, Gordon Bramall, Geoffrey Dann, Henry Ibberson, Clive Pendrell, Ken Scott, Alan Smith, Dorothy Steel and Tracey Williams.
