Snippets from the PCC Meeting – 2nd August 2022

The PCC’s meeting on 2nd August was held in church. Among the items discussed were:

Litter picking

One of the initiatives which was planned by the Outreach and Growth Group has been to try to support those in the village who pick up litter, either occasionally or regularly. Some litter picking equipment has been obtained and a litter picking event is being planned for this month.

Services for the remainder of the year

The schedule of services for the remainder of the year was reviewed. For the most part they will continue as they have so far this year, subject to clergy being available where needed.

The All Souls service will take place on Sunday, October 30 and the Remembrance Sunday Service will be on November 13. The Christingle Service will be on December 11 and the Christmas Carol Service on December 18. We hope to hold the usual services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

As the services are now fixed (at least provisionally), Elaine Lavender and Peter Nicholls will be putting together the rota for the last three months of the year. The rota includes sidesmen, readers, servers, intercessors, chalice assistants and coffee.

Anyone who would like to join – or to leave – any of those rotas should contact them or one of the churchwardens as soon as possible as they hope to complete the rotas within the first few days of September.

Clock winding

The church clock was made by Joyces of Whitchurch in 1868. It is a traditional turret clock with separate strikes for the hours and quarters. It currently needs to be wound by hand once a week and the time adjusted to keep it to time.

The Church Estate Trust has kindly agreed to fund the cost of equipment to wind the clock automatically and also to regulate the time. It will not alter the clock itself and would be removable in future if required.

Permission from the diocese is required for this work and an application is being made for a faculty and the public notice is currently displayed by the church door. Once the period for objections has elapsed it is hoped that the faculty will be issued and the PCC can place the order for the work to be done.

PCC members

The members of the PCC are:

Philip Sims (Chairman), Tony Ainsworth, Gordon Bramall, Geoffrey Dann, Henry Ibberson, Clive Pendrell, Ken Scott, Alan Smith, Dorothy Steel and Tracey Williams.
