Snippets from the PCC Meeting – 21st February 2023
The PCC’s meeting on 21st February was held in church. Among the matters discussed were:
Coronation weekend, Fete and Scarecrow Festival
The 10am service on Sunday, May 7, the day after the Coronation, will be a service of thanksgiving and celebration for the Coronation of King Charles III. There will not be a Communion service that day and it is hoped that many people will come to church to mark this special event in the nation’s life.
There will be a number of other events over that weekend which are being organised by a committee which includes representatives of the Parish Council, some members of the PCC and other members of the village community.
Planning for the Church Fete, which is to be held on Saturday, July 1, is under way and the Scarecrow Festival committee has started work. The festival is September 22-24. None of these events would happen without a great deal of work by a number of people, some of whom are members of the church community and others are not.
Fees for weddings and funerals
Most of the fees for weddings and funerals are set by the Church of England nationally. They were increased in line with inflation form January 1 but the General Synod decided in February that they should be reduced from March 1, so that the increase from 2022 would be about 5 per cent instead of 10 per cent.
The revised fees are now displayed in the church porch and are on the website.
Church Electoral Roll
The Church Electoral Roll is revised each year before the annual meeting. There is a notice on page 3 about that. Those already on the Roll do not need to do anything but if you are not on the roll and wish to vote at the annual meeting you need to submit an application form by Sunday April 30.
Dementia Friendly Church
We are keen to become a Dementia Friendly Church. This will involve a number of things including developing awareness of issues relating to dementia and developing support for those living with dementia.
PCC members
Members of the PCC are: Philip Sims (chairman), Tony Ainsworth, Gordon Bramall, Iain Coleman, Geoffrey Dann, Henry Ibberson, Clive Pendrell, Ken Scott, Alan Smith, Dorothy Steel and Tracey Williams.
