Snippets from the PCC meeting – 16th January 2018
The PCC’s meeting on 16th January 2018 was the first of the year. Whilst we needed to continue with our normal business we also needed to start to think about the coming year.
Planning
We will be meeting in February to review the Mission Action Plan for 2017 and to agree the Mission Action Plan for 2018. At this meeting we spent a little time thinking about what we are already doing and what we need either to do better or to start to do and what our priorities might be. We hope that this will help us when we make our plans for 2018 and beyond.
Christmas
Christmas, and the period leading up to it, is a very busy time. The total attendance at all services (except baptisms and funerals) in December was just under 1.400 people of whom about 400 were under 16. 130 people attended the Christingle service on 10th, 158 attended the Nine Lessons and Carols on 17th, 300 attended the Crib service on Christmas Eve, 97 attended the midnight service and 90 attended the two services on Christmas Day itself. We have agreed the dates for the various services which lead up the Christmas for this year (and they are in the calendar on the website) as people need to plan for them.
Church
After we suffered a theft from the church the previous year it was decided that the church should be locked after the service on Christmas Day and also on New Year’s Day. That seemed prudent as the number of people out and about at those times is much fewer than usual. That does not seem to have caused any difficulties.
Heating
The heating contractors are due to return on 22nd January for about three weeks to complete the work. Hopefully by the time you read this the work will be well under way. To enable the contractors to work effectively the church will be closed to visitors during the week while the work is being done. The Wednesday morning services are being moved elsewhere.
Memorial Book
We are aware that a number of people come into church to look at the Memorial Book. The book is kept in a locked case and is opened at the page for the current week. We are looking into ways of making something available for visitors to look through so that they can see the entry for their loved one when that page is not the current one.
