Snippets from the PCC meeting – 26th May 2020

The PCC’s meeting on 26th May was the second one which we had held over Zoom due to the lockdown restrictions. We seem to be getting used to it. Among the items discussed were:

The effect of the pandemic

A pattern of online services had been established and appeared to be working well. There have been two online Sunday Schools but they were not able to continue. The PCC considered other options to continue to provide provision for those who would normally attend Sunday School.

It was clear that the Holiday Club which would have been held in August would not be able to go ahead. The Scarecrow Festival Committee reported that they would take a decision in June as to whether the Scarecrow Festival would go ahead.

The current rotas end at the end of June and it was not clear when we might be able to resume services in church so it was decided to ask Peter Nicholls to prepare rotas for July and August in case they were needed.

Green bins in the churchyard

After June the council will charge to empty green bins and this will apply to the church in the same way as it applies to homes. We will ask the contractors to dispose of the grass cuttings which will mean we will dispense with the green bins from the end of June. Those tending graves should use the large bin (which of course ends up in landfill) for their rubbish – or could take it home if they wish to ensure that it is composted or recycled.

Pioneers Australia

Sally Broom grew up in Pattingham and was a member of our congregation throughout her formative years. She has moved to Australia and has recently joined Pioneers – an international agency which mobilises teams to glorify God amongst unreached peoples by initiating church planting movements in partnership with local churches – and hopes to minister amongst displaced people in the Middle East. The PCC agreed to donate £500 to Pioneers Australia to support her.
