Snippets from the PCC Meeting – 22nd November 2022
The PCC’s meeting on 22nd November was held in church. Among the matters discussed were:
Safeguarding policy
The PCC has adopted a new Safeguarding Policy, which replaces the previous policy and guidelines. The policy is displayed in the church and is also available on the church website.
The next steps will be to consider protocols to put the policy into action in particular areas.
Gift Aid secretary
Graham Tritton has been appointed Gift Aid secretary in succession to Dave Challinor, who had held the post from 2013 until his recent death.
Services on fifth Sundays
Until services were suspended due to Covid the 10am service on the fifth Sunday of the month was a Family Service and there was a Communion Service in the evening. When services were reviewed at the beginning of the interregnum we decided that on a fifth Sunday there would be a Family Service followed by a short Communion (as on the first Sunday).
For various reasons, including the shortage of people available to lead the Family Services we have decided that the fifth Sunday service should be a Communion Service, similar to that on the second and fourth Sundays.
Prayer Diaries
The Trysull Deanery, of which we are a part, has adopted a Prayer Dairy for 2023 to help deanery churches to pray for one another. Each Sunday in the year there is either a church or another aspect of the Deanery to pray for.
Some parishes have their own prayer diaries in which different parts of the parish are prayed for each week and we decided that it would be appropriate to adopt such a diary for Pattingham with Patshull.
An article about that is here and the Deanery and the Parish Prayer Diaries are both available on the church website (here) and copies will be available at the back of the church.
Fees and charges increased by 10 per cent
Every year the statutory fees for weddings and funerals, which are set by the national church, are increased and the PCC reviews those fees which can be set locally. This year they have almost all been increased by 10 per cent in line with the rate of inflation. The revised fees from 1st January are on the church website and will be on the notice board in the porch.
Distribution co-ordinator
Ken Scott has been distribution co-ordinator since 2017 and in that role he has been responsible for the recruitment, replacement and support of those who distribute the Christmas and Easter cards on behalf of the church as well as having some involvement in recruitment of those who deliver the magazine.
He decided that he would like to stand down after the distribution of this year’s Christmas cards and leaflets and Alan Smith has volunteered to take over the role from 1st January.
PCC members
Members of the PCC are: Philip Sims (Chairman), Tony Ainsworth, Gordon Bramall, Iain Coleman, Geoffrey Dann, Henry Ibberson, Clive Pendrell, Ken Scott, Alan Smith, Dorothy Steel and Tracey Williams.
