Snippets from the PCC Meeting – 27th September 2022

The PCC’s meeting on 27th September was held in church. Among the items discussed were:

Church attendance

It was noted that in the eight days from September 18 to 25 the total attendance at all the services in church was more than 800. This was obviously due to the services which were held in that period: the service of Thanksgiving for the life of Queen Elizabeth, the funeral for a much-loved member of the congregation, the School Harvest Service and Harvest Festival.

Even so that is an impressive figure for a comparatively small parish in an interregnum. The total attendance in the month of September was 1,062.

We have reviewed the attendance for the first nine months of this year. The average weekly attendance at all services in that period was 170, with an average of 60 people attending the Sunday morning service.

Christmas

Working with St. Chad’s School a ‘Christmas Experience’ for all children to visit Church will be offered in week beginning December 5. More details will follow.

Planning for the Christmas Tree Festival in December is continuing through the steering committee, which consists of five members of the PCC and five others.

Arrangements for most services in December have been made, although we are still trying to find a priest for one of the Communion services. We are grateful for the support which we receive from the local clergy and also those members of our congregation who lead, or provide support for, some of the services.

We hope to produce a leaflet to go with the Christmas card which is delivered to all homes in the parish. They should be delivered about the end of November. We have a band of volunteers who deliver these but may need some new volunteers to fill in gaps. Anyone who would like to help should contact Ken Scott.

Work with children and families

The PCC held an extra meeting on October 4 at which we were joined by some of those who are involved with our work with children and young people.

We reviewed Holiday Club, which had been very successful and discussed how we could build on that success and what provision we could make for children and families in future.

A number of ideas were discussed which will give food for thought for the PCC. Hopefully the fruits of those thoughts will become apparent in the next few months.
