‘Churchwardens’ Chat’
We are now in an interregnum following the retirement of the Vicar and so the monthly letter for the Parish News is written by the Churchwardens
September 2021
It was great to see everyone at Maureen’s farewell tea; many thanks to Henry, Tony and Liz and their team for their hard work and to all of you who contributed to the fantastic spread of delights!
It is also lovely to see more people returning to church where we can worship together.
Thinking about our beautiful church building reminds us to say ‘thank you’ to our team of flower arrangers who bring the beauty and joy of God’s creation into our church for us to enjoy! We are grateful to all who contribute in different ways by continuing to work with us throughout these difficult times.
The Youth Group continues to surprise and encourage us with their monthly services and we especially appreciate their support over the last 18 months. Now we hope a few more young people will be inspired to join the group and we look forward to meeting you in church.
We want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Alison who was our Verger until May this year, for all her hard work, commitment and support to St Chad’s. We hope to have a new Verger starting soon. In the meantime, we are grateful to Gena and Mike Richards who have come forward to fill so many ‘gaps’ and will help welcome the new Verger into the role.
The excitement of the month has to be our soon to be held Scarecrow Festival and Harvest time. We give thanks to God (and our farmers) for the wonders of harvest and we look forward to seeing you over the weekend of 24th September, joining the fun of the scarecrow trail!
We continue to do all we can to make life in ‘Covid times’ as safe as possible, and may be able to have a ‘Harvest Supper’ this year – watch out in ChadNet and listen to announcements in Church for details.
Great news from our eco-church team: the Youth Group have agreed to support our eco-church journey and will ensure our message of care for God’s wonderful creation is incorporated into their service with prayer each month.
Thank you to the whole group, especially Barbara who works with the group and co-ordinates everything.
The Shaping for Mission team in the Deanery has met several times over the summer to discern the Deanery vision and plan to shape our efforts to do God’s work as Christians together.
Finally, more good news to share! We now have our new carpet and votive candle stand in the Lady Chapel. What a wonderful space, (and comfortable chairs) for prayer, a quiet talk with God, a moment to think of loved ones, remember lives lived and to give thanks for the light of Christ in our world.
Take a moment for yourself and for God, light a candle and rejoice!
