The Link to Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal is open for this year and running as normal. This year the countries include Ukraine. We do hope that we can do something to help these people, for whom life really is a struggle, especially in these difficult times.
If you would like to make up a shoe box for the Link to Hope Appeal, do please do so. The charity asks us to prepare boxes for either a family or an elderly person.
There are leaflets at the back of the church which will give greater details and make suggestions about what they would like us to include in the boxes.
Last year we sent 24 boxes. Can we beat that this year?
There are other options, including making a donation, but hopefully we can gather up lots of actual boxes this year. Full details are on the Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal website.
Barbara Tritton will take filled shoeboxes to the local co-ordinator. She asks that these boxes are brought to her by Sunday 29th October – to allow her time to take them to the collection point.
Why support the Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal?
- They ask people to fill a Shoebox for a family or an elderly person – not just a child. Their list contains items for all family members and includes items such a shower gel/shampoo, family games, stationary items, gift for mum and dad as well as sweets, soft toys, hats, scarves etc.
- Their annual Family Shoebox Appeal has been running since 1992 and has delivered smiles to thousands of people in Eastern Europe over the years. Over 1,000,000 shoeboxes have been sent to hundreds of different locations!
- It’s a really simple idea, anyone can get involved.
What makes the Shoebox Appeal 2023 different?
- Your shoeboxes will go to the poorest people in Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria and Romania.
- Unlike many other shoebox appeals, the scheme collects boxes for entire families and the elderly, so nobody’s left out.
- They are small, yet established enough to have personal relationships with the individuals in Eastern Europe who work hard delivering your boxes. For transparency, they also carry out spot-checks to confirm that the right people are receiving your boxes.
- They believe that sending shoeboxes shows love from British people to those in war-torn or poverty-stricken circumstances, regardless of their background, colour, creed or religion.
Leaflets specifying what should be put in the shoebox are available at the back of the church and on the Link to Hope website. It is important to check the leaflet as they are very particular about what can, and cannot, be included.
Boxes need to be with Barbara by Sunday 29th October 2023 .
