Snippets from the PCC Meetings – 9th May and Annual Meeting on 21st May 2023
The PCC meeting on May 9 was held in church. Among the matters discussed were:
Outreach and Growth
This is continuing to develop a number of initiatives, some of which are still in their early stages but others are at the planning stage. An event for young people is being planned for September. Other ideas being developed include a multi-terrain race in 2024, film nights and an informal community choir.
Chalice at Communion
Prior to the pandemic there would be two chalices used for the wine at the Sunday morning Communion service. Since then we have only used one chalice but numbers have now reached the point that it is appropriate to have two chalices again. This is, perhaps, another sign of things getting back to normal.
Theft of lead from the church roof
Just before the Coronation weekend at the beginning of May thieves stole the lead from the roof of the north aisle. This obviously caused some disruption due to rain coming through the roof. Temporary repairs have been made and our architect will advise us about permanent repairs; we are likely to decide to replace the lead with some other material which is less attractive to thieves.
Summer Holiday Club
There will be a Holiday Club in the summer which will again be held at Kingswood. It will be on Monday and Tuesday, August 7-8 and planning is now taking place. We have not yet identified the person who is to lead it.
Dementia Friendly Church
We now have a Dementia Friendly Church certificate signed by the Bishop of Lichfield and we have committed to the following Action Plan for the year ahead:
- Hold a Sunday service with a dementia focus.
- Appoint a dementia coordinator.
- Create an information board in church to share information about dementia.
Tracey Williams has been appointed our dementia coordinator and there will be a service in November. The information board will hopefully be in the church soon.
Annual meeting
The church’s annual meeting was held on Sunday May 21. Reports for that meeting are on the church website (here) and include a wealth of information about the church’s year.
Clive Pendrell and Dorothy Steel were re-elected as Churchwardens. Gordon Bramall and Ken Scott have finished their terms and did not seek re-election. Gordon had been a member of the deanery synod since it was created in 1970 and prior to that was a
member of its predecessor, the ruri-decanal conference, since 1958. Ken has been on the PCC since 2010, soon after he and Anne moved to the village.
Philip Sims, PCC chairman, expressed his appreciation for everything Ken Scott has done for the Church as a PCC member and continues to do as a much-valued Reader.
Anna Davies was elected as a member of the PCC.
