View from the Pews
‘Out of my comfort Zone’ was a Youth service held on the 19th July which included a drama performed amusingly by Malachi and Leonie entitled ‘sorry to disturb you’. The ethos of this was to emphasise how many of us today cannot cope with the truth of a given situation – needing to have disturbing events ‘watered down’ as the truth may be too unpleasant to cope with. In other words we are not trusting in God to support us with life’s difficulties. I believe that if we are prepared to accept that God is there for us in any given situation somehow things work out for the best. Sometimes we have to be very patient but often there is a good reason why. Often many times we are grateful that we had to wait for a better outcome.
It is rather difficult for us in Pattingham with so many parts of the World in turmoil – we are fortunate to live completely ‘watered down’! But God is aware we in Church do our best through prayer and giving to help those who have little or nothing. Our Church services are joyous, uplifting, stimulating, thought provoking and on 26th July for me emotional as Dominic played his grade 8 exam piece with such delicate feeling and expertise – Symphony Hall standard!
Such talent which pervades all who serve and worship in Pattingham Church. I look around our mixed congregation in wonder – Merry, the musicians, choir, screen operators, old, young and everything in between, all different backgrounds, abilities – and contemplate how lucky we are to be part of God’s will in this Church which gives abiding strength and determination to hang on to our beliefs and remain true to our faith whatever is thrown at us.

Sunday 16th August – Eleventh Sunday after Trinity
At 10 am there will be a service of Holy Communion, led by the Vicar, in church. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available after the service. (There is not a Youth Service in August).
At 6.30 pm there will be a service of Evensong, led by the Vicar, in church.
In the Parish Prayer Diary we pray for those who live and work in:

In the Trysull Deanery Prayer Diary we pray for:

This week
The church will be open every day. Look out for the “church open” sign outside the porch.
On Tuesday the Prayers for Peace Group meets in church at 6 pm. Please do join us and if you would like more information please contact Mary Hayward ().
On Wednesday at 10.00 am there will be a service of Holy Communion according to the Book of Common Prayer, led by the Vicar, in church which will be followed by tea, coffee and cake.
After the service the church will be open from 10.30 am until at least 11.00 am as a Place of Welcome when anyone who wants to will be welcome to share in the coffee, cake and chat, whether they have been to the service or not. Those attending will receive a warm welcome.
There is NO Pattingham Shower Singers this week. They are taking their summer break and will next meet in September. For more information contact Alix at .
At 7 pm on Wednesday Choir Practice takes place in church. Anyone interested in joining the choir should contact Martin Fox or any member of the choir.
On Friday from 10 am to 12 noon the Home Instead Memory Café is being held at the Village Hall.
These are free informal sessions designed for individuals living with dementia and their carers to meet in a relaxed environment. Enjoy simple, engaging activities, while connecting with others who understand the challenges of dementia. No need to book. Just pop along.
Sunday 23rd August – Twelfth Sunday after Trinity
At 10 am there will be an All Age Communion Service, led by the Vicar, in church. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available after the service.

Hymns and Pimm’s
Saturday 5th September at 4 pm in church
Another opportunity to praise the Lord by singing your favourite hymns whilst enjoying a glass of Pimm’s (or non alcoholic alternative). The service will start at 4 pm prompt and last a maximum of 90 minutes. All ages, 0 – 100+, are welcome. There is no charge but donations to the church and to cover costs are welcome.
For your favourite hymns to be considered for inclusion, please send suggestions to as soon as possible.
The Well – the Wolverhampton Food Bank
All donations are welcome but, in particular, our top needs are:
- Meat soup
- Tinned tomatoes
- Tinned peas
- Jam/marmalade
- Sugar

Weekly Prayer
A Prayer for Comfort
As the sun rises, we pray that we have kind hearts
So we can always treasure memories even though some people may forget.
We pray for the charities who help to raise money and pray that you always bring comfort to those living with Dementia.
